Sleepy Freak

New Track: "Give & Take" - Sleepy Freak

Produced by Ethan Farmer, Kate Lord, a.k.a. Sleepy Freak, recently shared a new single called “Give & Take”. There’s a strength and sadness in the song as it speaks of the desire to embrace change. A melancholy tone exhibits regret and a continuous ache, while the vocals express determination within an isolated, emotive atmosphere. This is further enhanced/amplified by the backing vocals that rise at key points. (Photo by Ashley Gellman)

Weekend Warrior, October 12 - 14

Today, Baby Steps, the new EP from the Kate Lord-led outfit Sleepy Freak, was released, and tomorrow evening, Horror Land will host a showcase of locals to mark the occasion. There’s both a sense of reflective imagination and the push toward adventure in these songs. An ongoing evolution runs a thread through the narratives that steadily simmer and ripple, leading way to a ripping cathartic release/realization. Gradually building tension through transparent vulnerability and melodically stacked progressions, these personal journeys lead you somewhere, while still hitting home. Sleepy Freak will also be joined by the bummer pop of Snowhore and lo-fi, sad folk of Puppy Angst, featuring Alyssa Milman (of Blushed). (Photo by Emily Dubin) – Michael Colavita

New Sleepy Freak/Greg Mendez Split EP Available for Streaming & Download

Sleepy Freak, a.k.a. Kate Lord, and Greg Mendez have issued a new split release. Guided by acoustic strums, Mendez's tranquil, melodic narratives blanket one in steady, harmonic reassurance. Meanwhile, Sleepy Freak’s selection of tracks establishes an emotive core, while measured vocals provides accessible, penetrating imagery that lays akin to fellow Philadelphian Kississippi. Presented by Home Outgrown, Mendez is slated on a bill at Hole Foods on Wednesday, January 31 that will also include Marigold and Major Pursuit.
