Alpenglow

Three great NYC artists play Union Pool on 05.02: Wilsen, Alpenglow and Hite

We feel like recommending this bill of NYC based artists playing Union Pool pm May 02. Wilsen is a band led by amazing songwriter Tamsin Wilson, they were featured on the cover of our magazine a few years ago. Alpenglow, hailing from New England but now full Brooklynites, play similarly ghostly folk rock, and they do it well. Hite, on the other hand, is a new face in the local scene, and a compelling one: the solo act's debut LP "Light of a Strange Day" is one of the most interesting releases we've heard this year, a sparse record filled with inspiring sonic ideas, edgy soul songwriting and a voice that's impressively controlled and expressive. Do not miss!

Alpenglow's new video for "Flicker Flutter" from 'Callisto'

Alpenglow has stripped technology down to its dark essence with their new video for "Flicker Flutter," a song included in their debut full length, Callisto. The song/video combo tackles the fascinating topic of reality vs. perception, in a way that's at least in part reminiscent of classic sci-fi movies like The Matrix and Strange Days, whose central question is: would our lives be happy and fulfilling if we simply perceived them that way, thanks to some kind of device that messes up with our brain? Both the video and the song seem to accept that possibility, stressing though the utter disconnect that kind of happiness would inevitably create between human beings.

Alpenglow announces debut LP Callisto + spring tour

Born in the forests of Vermont as an intimate, mellow folk project, Alpenglow slowly morphed into a psychedelic entity that feeds itself with roots (music) and converts them into spacey songs full of synths and effects. The release of their beautiful 2014 EP Chapel openied up opportunities to tour with Lucius, Timber Timbre, and their spiritual guru, Jim James of My Morning Jacket. They are now announcing their full debut album, "Callisto," scheduled for a February 26 release, by unveiling single "Following The Scene." The band will play a bunch of East Coast dates supporting the album, before coming back to Brooklyn for a show at the new Williamsburg non profit venue National Showdust, on April 1st.

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best mellow songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!

Alpenglow to perform their spacey folk-pop at Rough Trade tonight (8.28)

Originally formed in Vermont, Alpenglow, the now Brooklyn-based band, is dropping its old “atmospheric folk” sound and exchanging it for one with more sonic vibes. This band is blasting off. Their latest EP, 'Chapel,' which still encompasses their old sound, can be defined as the word Alpenglow itself: “the rosy light of the setting or rising sun seen on high mountains.” Lead singer Graeme Daubert’s shifting vocals and unforeseen relatability manage to give listeners the sense that they are on one of those mountains. Recently, Alpenglow added some singles to their soundcloud that we recommend you listen to. "Dreaming Too Much" (streaming below), for instance, encompasses the space vibe they claim to be working towards. The band should be previewing some of their work at Rough Trade tonight, August 28th. - Lauren Schechter

TONIGHT! Read The Deli 'At The Inn' with Pavo Pavo, Alpenglow, Cassandra Jenkins, and My Bubba

We'd like to invite all the NYC scene lovers to join The Deli's staff at the Manhattan Inn in Greenpoint tonight (June 8th), for Hypnocraft's first appointment with a new monthly music residency called "At the Inn" (music starts at 8.30pm)

There - among other things - you'll be able to:

1. Read the new issue of The Deli (it's the "best of NYC 2015" one!)
2. Listen to live music by four great (mostly) local artists.

Here are our favorite songs by the performing artists:
