Bardo Pond

New Bardo Pond Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Take flight aboard the sonic shuttle of Philly psych-rock stalwarts Bardo Pond, whose latest mission Volume 8 was recently released via Fire Records. Unearthing mindful stillness as one’s surroundings spin further out into the ether, there’s a brooding, eye-of-the-storm circumstance. Engulfing heaviness is shot through with moments of beautiful clarity. Bardo Pond will be touching down on Johnny Brenda’s stage on February 16, where they'll be supported by Honey Radar, Major Stars, and Henry Owings.

Weekend Warrior, March 31 - April 2

Released last month via Epitaph, The Menzingers’ latest album, After The Party, finds the quartet in a reflective realm. Maintaining a melodic, polished sense of exuberance, the album stews on reminiscent tales of young adulthood, steadily driving ahead while peaking out from within those narratives to inject crowd-charging, catchy choruses. After numerous nights of travel, their destination is the inviting return home as they set up shop, intertwining Americana-punk sounds at The Fillmore, joined by Jeff Rosenstock, and Rozwell Kid.

Meanwhile, right down the road at Johnny Brenda's, the engulfing fuzz-torching psych rock of Bardo Pond blazes an invigorating sonic trail to commemorate their new release, Under The Pines, available via Fire Records. They’ll be supported by Sparrow Steeple and Eric Arn so step out of the rain and soak in some replenishing sounds. - Michael Colavita

New Bardo Pond Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Bruising percussion and sludgy, scorching guitars, tempered by Isobel Sollenberger’s peacefully permeating vocals, Under The Pines is the newly released record from Philly psychedelic stalwarts Bardo Pond. Available via UK label Fire Records, the album creates a crushing sense of catharsis. Its brooding, reserved appeal to fuzzed-out aggression steadily murmurs in one's mind. Bardo Pond will be celebrating its arrival this Friday, March 31 at Johnny Brenda's with Sparrow Steeple and Eric Arn.

Happy 10th Anniversary Week, Johnny Brenda’s!!!

For those who’ve been lucky enough to live through the renaissance that Philly’s music scene has been experiencing for the last decade or so, we’d like to remind you of a time when the next big thing in music was not likely going to be discovered in your favorite local DIY space. With the exception of R5 Productions, who was only consistently booking the First Unitarian Church at the time and just starting to gain a great reputation nationally in the indie music scene, many of the music venues were known more for ripping off artists than helping to nurture the music community. However, once Johnny Brenda’s renovated its second floor into a concert space, it was a total game changer - forever raising the bar in Philly. (Thank you!) We finally had a world-class music venue that actually cared about the artists’ and concertgoers’ experience. (What local musician out there didn’t appreciate the complimentary Greek plate in the backstage when he or she first performed there?) Johnny Brenda’s became a cornerstone for the arts & culture community in Fishtown and throughout Philadelphia.

This week marks the beloved establishment’s 10th Anniversary as a music venue, and they’ll be celebrating it with some kick-ass events that start this evening with the soulful, powerful ache of Hop Along frontwoman Frances Quinlan, the polished indie-pop of Hurry, and the “heavenly blues” of The Goodbye Party. You also surely don’t want to miss Tuesday night’s psych explorations with Bardo Pond, Birds of Maya, and Chris Forsyth. The rest of the week’s festivities will also include evenings with Rocky Votolato, The Album Leaf, IGNITE Philly, and much more. Cheers to all the good folks at JB’s! - Q.D. Tran

Weekend Warrior, October 30 - November 1

Without a doubt, Halloween is our favorite holiday. And we know that you can’t wait to get into a little mischief this weekend. Where would we suggest for you to do that at? It’s tough to say with so many options. You can kick it old school tonight with legendary Philly punks The Dead Milkmen at The Troc and psych rockers Bardo Pond at JB’s, or go way back to the 8-bit sounds of your childhood with Cheap Dinosaurs and Chipocrite at MilkBoy Philly. There is a plethora of cover band bills to choose from so take your pick. Do you want to rock out with your genitals out (so PC, right?) with Ween (featuring members of On The Water, Post Sun Times & Sandcastle) at South Philly DIY (garage) space Cha-Cha’Razzi? Or is watching Vita and the Woolf’s Jen Pague throwing down with her best Sasha Fierce impersonation at MilkBoy Philly your bag? And of course, our old pal TJ Kong will be playing host to his 6th annual Halloween Murder Show at Underground Arts. There’s a lot to consume in costume this weekend; however, we conveniently list the local activities for you below. - The Deli Staff
