Bardo Pond

Weekend Warrior, October 2 - 4

As the weather may start to settle down outside this Sunday, there will be a storm a brewing inside at Ortlieb’s. The mighty Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel are kicking off their October residency with special guests Bardo Pond. The local drone-psych legends always captivate and entrance while building their wall of sound on stage. It can be endearing while at the same time tumultuous, as vocals and instrumentation dance and clash, finding their way into our subconscious. They’ll also be joined by experimental guitarist/composer Loren Connors. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. 3rd St., $10, 8pm, 21+ - Alexis V.

Hound Opening for Bardo Pond at Underground Arts Feb. 7

Veteran psych-rock superstars Bardo Pond will be playing a tripped out set that will be sure to mesmerize at Underground Arts tonight. And they'll be joined by the pulse-pounding, hard-hitting trio Hound, who captured my attention in a big way with the release of Out of Time, during the tail end of last year. The group brings heavy psychedelic stoner metal, at its finest, to the table, and channels fond memories of old school Motorhead and Black Sabbath. And they'll likely be unleashing some new tunes since they've been in the process of recording a new EP that should be out in the not too distant future. The show will also feature the brash, in-your-face rock of Watery LoveUnderground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $10, All Ages (Hound Photo by Heather McGinniss) - Bill McThrill

Weekend Warrior, September 26 - 28

Philly’s most successful new pop-up park and beer garden, Spruce Street Harbor Park, closes down for the season on Sunday. But before it does, it’s going out with a trippy psych-rock bang this Saturday evening with an electrifying free concert headlined by Bardo Pond. And since they’re hot off the heels of a European tour, the veteran psych rockers are prepared to have an incendiary homecoming. Tonight will be a good opportunity to catch the retro 60’s street-level boogie of Needle Points before their new album Cripple Street comes out next month. If you caught them during this year’s Kensington Picnic, then you know that Spacin’ delivers a carefree, good-times, all-the-time outdoor performance. And this show will be no exception. Spruce Street Harbor Park, Spruce St. & Columbus Blvd., 7pm, FREE, All Ages - Bill McThrill

Bardo Pond Luring You Into Places Unknown at KFN Aug. 6

Sometimes, drifting is the best move. Bardo Pond is a band whose musical structure dictates and in fact, may suggest drifting as a policy; gradually picking up the threshold and inching it further from the starting point. In the process, stirring a wicked brew of cutting, dungeon-painting guitar countered by enchanting vocals, they'll lure you into places unknown. Bardo Pond will be prefaced tonight at Kung Fu Necktie by the heavy-psych vibes of Gondola, hard-rocking trio The Company Corvette, and the searing rock 'n' roll guitar riffs of Carousel. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., $8, 8pm, 21+ - Michael Colavita

Rediscovered Track: "Die Easy" - Bardo Pond & Reissue Series Coming Out

According to Ad Hoc, Three Lobed Recordings is planning to reissue a series of records made up of local psych rock legends Bardo Pond's previous works. The inaugural release will be a double LP Refulgo, a collection of the band's early singles and compilation tracks, that is scheduled to drop on March 25. Below is the album's opener "Die Easy," the group's interpretation of the spiritual "I Want To Die Easy," which was the A-side to Bardo Pond's first 7" release. Enjoy!
