Big Huge

Catch Big Huge's blast from the past at BK Bazaar on 04.15

Bands like New York’s own BIG HUGE seem to exist sometimes for the single purpose of making you remember the past, only to suddenly find yourself relishing in its fascination. Power pop was an American counterpunch to the British Invasion of the '60s and in their 2017 record CRUEL WORLD BIG HUGE channels it beautifully. With the fun and upbeat tempos of power pop heroes like Cheap Trick well ingrained into songs like “WENT BAD” and “LOST CLASSIC” the group takes full liberty to crank up the style to one hundred with fuzzy vocals and crunchy guitar licks that will shine proto-garage undertones at you. This New York City quintet remains above everything faithful to themselves, catch them on April 15th at Brooklyn Bazaar. - Rene Cobar

Big Huge celebrates "Cruel World" LP at BK Bazaar on 08.16

Big Huge have been joining the grit and DIY mentality of punk with infectiously catchy tunes since 2012, and their 2015 self-released EP Orama featured some ultra-fun, unstoppable tunes drenched in vintage influences. In that record, front-man Dan Reg’s twitchy vocals often evoked the sugary sweet melodies of 50’s pop with a layer of fuzzy distorted garage rock, while singing about love and enjoying the company of friends during the late night hours. The five-piece is about to release their debut full length "Cruel World" on Don Giovanni Records on August 11th, and, judging from the two preview singles, there is good reason to keep those good old ripped jeans handy, because the reference decade seems to be closer to 1977. The first opportunity to wear them comes on August 16th, when they will be celebrating the record's release party at Brooklyn Bazaar. - John Honan

Fierce garage rock band Big Huge to play Market Hotel 9/1

Like their name implies, Big Huge's sound is explosive from the get-go. On their latest EP Orama, the NYC garage rock band has a strong, early-60's rockabilly sensibility,  all the blaring fuzz and bare-knuckle dirt of early 70's rock, and yet still delivers fresh sounding hooks destined for earworm status. The band is fun, upbeat, and the perfect companion to a late-night highway drive with the windows down. Check them out at the Market Hotel on September 1st in support of Shannon and the Clams and White Mystery. -Olivia Sisinni

Big Huge unveils new track 'Late at Nite' from upcoming EP

Of all the 30+ bands that played our 2015 NYC B.E.A.F. (Best of Emerging Artists Fest), garage rockers Big Huge had certainly one of the most entertaining live shows. Their colorful t-shirts (or lack o thereof) matched the musicians' personalities, definitely not shy nor subtle. You can clearly hear this in their brand new single "Late at Nite," a gritty uptempo number that blends garage rock and '60s pop (including a touch of early Beatles, dare we say!) with super fun results. Whatch out for an upcoming EP featuring this song later in the summer.

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best garage/punk songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!

NYC garage rock band Big Huge heads to SXSW

Close your eyes when listening to Big Huge’s latest record “Don’t Be Shy” and you’ll be transported to a big old couch in your neighbor’s garage (just play along here)—the cushions are a bit sunken in from jumping and the beers are fizzy, warm, and plentiful. It’s not a bad place to be. The sound is fuzzy and upbeat, the rhythm driving, and the vocals excitable. Big Huge is a 5-piece NYC rock band. They’ll be heading to SXSW this March to play this and other shows, but they love you and will without doubt be coming back to local NYC venues this Spring. Big Huge made our recent list of Best Emerging NYC Bands. - Leora Mandel
