Philly Beer Week Scavenger Run & Free Music Fest at Dock Street Brewery June 12

Some of you have probably been gettin’ your drink on for Philly Beer Week. And as the curtain begins to pull shut for the ten-day celebration, I look forward to ending things at Dock Street Brewery’s PBW Scavenger Run & Free Music Fest, as I always do every year. Now, I’m not going to lie. I neither have the physical capability or desire to do any running around today, but you can be sure as hell to count me in for some great brews, scrumptious pizzas, and sweet local acts. As usual, it’s an eclectic lineup that feeds off the diversity of the West Philly neighborhood. Ready to throwdown this year for your listening pleasure will be neo-psych sextet Needle Points (who are currently recording its next album with Dr. Dog’s Scott McMicken), experimental punks Northern Liberties, the funky sounds of Black Landlord, and L’ananas (featuring members of Grandchildren). It’s really too nice of a day to just stay at home and nurse hangover. A bit of the hair of the dog, a few slices, and an afternoon of good tunes will make the pain all go away. Dock Street Brewery, 50th St. & Baltimore Ave., 2:30pm - 8pm, Free, All Ages - Alexis V.

Black Landlord Halloween Extravaganza at KFN Oct. 28

When Black Landlord enters KFN tonight, be prepared for a storm of boogie-down funk (which is fitting with the current weather predictions). Max Stoyanoff-Williams commands the mic unleashing authoritative rhymes as the band takes flight with the combination of bass, keys, guitar and horns thundering away creating a spellbindingly heavy groove that propels listeners to their feet. The beat of the percussion provide the consistent push that serves as the catalyst for the rest of the band while the horns blast away at opportune times - smooth phrasing adding a depth and brightness which sends the overall sound sky bound. For those who don’t want the Halloween weekend to end and who aren’t afraid of some rain, the Black Landlord Halloween Extravaganza is your go-to spot this evening. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7:30, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

Black Landlord Benefit Show at MilkBoy Philly Mar. 30

Tonight, Black Landlord brings the party to MilkBoy Philly for a good cause: the show is a benefit for Bruce, a friend of the group, to help him save his home. The nine-piece soul/funk/jazz/hip hop collective, led by Maxx Stoyanoff-Williams, is known for their wild live performances, which resemble a summer block party in Philly, so tonight’s gig should be nothing short of a good time. And before the show, fans can check out their latest EP, What You Mean to We, on their Bandcamp Page and grab a FREE download of their track, “Watch Out.” Start your weekend off right by checking out Philly’s own self-proclaimed “house band” and support a good cause. MilkBoy Philly, 1100 Chestnut St., $10 - $20, 8:30 p.m., All Ages - Dan Brightcliffe
