New Music Video: “Drift Away” - Bleeding Rainbow

Here’s an ominously dreamy new sci-fi stop-motion music video from Bleeding Rainbow for their track “Drift Away,” which premiered earlier today on Pitchfork.tv. The band’s forthcoming album Yeah Right will be available January 29 via Kanine Records.

Weekend Warrior, October 12 - 14

Tonight's show at Johnny Brenda's is a triptych of scuzzy psych-punk, presented by three local luminaries in the field. Heavy Medical's high-strung, buzzing guitar attacks come at you through a wall of agitated, hammering drums, corralling their aggression into short, brutal songs. Bleeding Rainbow are easier on the sensibilities with their luscious harmonies, yet they bring the noise with their biting guitars. Far-Out Fangtooth round out the night, blending dour vocals with tribal drum crashes for an almost monastic sound, if only monks had access to effects pedals. Johnny Brenda's, 1201 N. New Bleeding Rainbow LP Release Date Pushed Back & Limited 7” Series Will Be Available

Bleeding Rainbow just announced that the release date for their forthcoming album Yeah Right has been pushed back from October 9th, 2012 to January 29th, 2013. However, their new label Kanine plans to release a very limited 7” series for their first three singles from the record, which will also include unreleased b-sides, in October, November and December. Physical copies of the full-length album will be available at the band’s shows in December and early January, and the LP will eventually be available to stream in its entirety before the new release date.

New Music Video: “Pink Ruff” - Bleeding Rainbow

Here’s a new music video for the lead single, “Pink Ruff,” off Bleeding Rainbow’s forthcoming album Yeah Right. It premiered earlier today via Stereogum. It was directed by Herbie Shellenberger and Michael Thomas Vassallo. Below is what they had to say about its production.

Bleeding Rainbow approached us about shooting a video for the firstsingle (“Pink Ruff”) from their new album. One of the references they mentioned was the “Stargate” sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Thinking about this scene, we were reminded of similar abstract portraits (Warhol’s “Chelsea Girls” as well as films by Kenneth Anger and Shuji Terayama) and the colorfield films of Paul Sharits.

We shot on 16mm color reversal (Ektachrome 7285) in Rob and Sarah’s basement with each of the four band members sitting and posing in a bust shot. We had intense lights with color gels moving around the band members, video and overhead projectors, a fog machine and a sequence with plastic wrap in front of the lens.

When we got the film back from the lab, we discovered that much of it was misregistered in the camera and out of frame. The footage was even more abstract than was planned, but luckily it fit with the theme. Michael Tom edited the footage with lots of fast cuts, chopping it up to match the intensity of the song. We are very proud to work with Bleeding Rainbow and thank them for their support in helping us shoot on 16mm!
