Bootblacks

Bootblacks on Cherry Bomb livestream tonight

Much like a certain storied pair of shiny shiny, shiny boots of leather, the music of Bootblacks is highly polished, austere and severe. And when it kicks you in the face you’ll beg for more, much like Severin in thrall to Wanda von Dunajew.

Residing somewhere in a batcave in Brooklyn (perhaps neighbors with Eddie Murphy?) these stalwart somber-hued postpunkers not too long ago released their forth full-length Thin Skies. Check out the music vid above for the full effect, and then give a listen to their Live At Saint Vitus set released in December.

Speaking of all thing Venusian, tonight Bootblacks appear as part of Cherry Bomb: International Women’s Day Charity Livestream originating straight outta Philly starting at 7pm EST with 12 bands & DJs benefiting 12 relevant charities with co-hosting duties shared by Lazy Astronomer and DJ Baby Berlin and streaming live on the latter’s Twitch channel. Click HERE for the full lineup and check out videos by a few of the other featured performers below.

Electro-goths Bootblacks talk about synths on Delicious Synths

Bootblacks offer a gothic melancholia bounced back and forth on synth-pop beats, a menacing vision of gloom that’s infectious. Bootblacks’ post-punk/new-wave sensibility is beautifully paired with Panther Macdonald’s vocals. They’re straight out of the post-punk catalog: romantic, dramatic, seductive. The band promises a seedier vision of NYC, one of decadence and decay. They shared their preference about synths with our sister blog Delicious Synths, check it out!

Bootblacks' LP "Fragments" Debuts 09.14

Bootblacks’ post-punk/new-wave sensibility is beautifully paired with Panther Macdonald’s vocals. They’re straight out of the post-punk catalogue: romantic, dramatic, seductive. The band promises a seedier vision of NYC, one of decadence and decay. Their newest work offers a more sophisticated sonic aesthetic, so make sure to check out their new album “Fragments” from (appropriately named, for this release) Manic Depression Records, available 09.14. --Amanda Ogea

Electro-Post-Punk trio Bootblacks unveils single from upcoming LP "Veins" + tours Europe

Bootblacks is a rather appropriate name for a band that plays electro-post-punk inspired to the early '80s: a scene that was particularly attached to their black boots, preferably Dr. Martens ones - a paradoxical fixation, considering how anti-corporate the punk and post-punk movements have always been. The duo's first single "8 Sub Rosa" (streaming) pairs an ultrafast, pulsating electronic rhythm section with clean, textural guitars. Traces of goth are evident - while listening to this track, echoes of Dead or Alive and early New Order keep haunting us, while Brooklyn Vegan, who premiered their song, hears a direct link to Clan of Xymox (we hear it too!) and Front Line Assembly (not so much). Hailing from Brooklyn, the three musicians will be self-releasing debut album "Veins" on March 11th and start a spring European tour with Berlin band Liste Noire (formerly Velvet Condom).
