Bryant Eugene Vazquez Invoking the Spirit of Early 90's Shoegaze at The Pharmacy Oct. 9

Bryant Eugene Vazquez delves into the darker depths of noise on his new album, Grey Expectations. Invoking the spirit of early 90's shoegaze, Vazquez resuscitates the genre with a fury and piousness that makes The Church sound like “Joy to the World” sang by a choir of castratos - pure grit that spits in your face and then lovingly wipes it away with a black velvet handkerchief. Always a conceptual artist, Bryant Eugene Vazquez's Grey Expectations is the second in a trilogy of albums that explore various genres and do so in a thoughtful manner. Vazquez will be performing this evening at The Pharmacy, where he’ll be joined by Chicago’s Absolutely Not, Janelle, Altes Shwert, and Glazer. The Pharmacy, 1300 S. 18th St., 7pm, $5-$7, All Ages - Keith Kelley

The Rivals Reunite at Boot & Saddle July 15

Tonight at Boot and Saddle is a full lineup of Philadelphia artists who find their strength in nostalgia. The Rivals will reunite for one evening, and bring their brooding, psychedelic rock, with influences ranging from The Doors to The Black Keys. The moody harmonies and intricate guitars are what drive the tunes forward. The band is returning to the scene for this show, so expect some serious solos and a whole lot of energy from a group that has been dormant for a bit. Also performing is the high energy acoustic rock of Bryant Eugene Vasquez, who is part Lou Reed and part Modest Mouse. The California native has been in Philly for the past 2 years, and the ups and downs of moving to our humble city resulted in his most recent effort All Damn Day/ The Greatest Hits. Both artists are opening for classic rock outfit Song Dogs in what will be a great night in South Philly filled with good friends and tunes. Boot & Saddle, 1131 Broad St., $12, 8pm, 21+ - Adam G.

Final Day of Sundrop Music Festival at The Fire May 24

The third and final day of the 5th annual Sundrop Music Festival (presented by Philadelphia Brewing Company & iRadio Philly) packs The Fire with an eclectic range of talent from the afternoon through the evening. Among those performing are the murky, dance-inspiring, electronic synth/percussion exploits of qqq, the chilled-out, gentle-swaying pop-rock of singer/songwriter Bryant Eugene Vazquez & The Songs, and the emotive alt-rock of Mumblr, whom have a propensity to shift those glum moments in combustible rockers. The sharp spun rhymes of The Bul Bey and the soul-filled electronic R&B Elegant Animals pave the way to a full day of enjoying that time off. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 2pm, Free, All Ages - Michael Colavita

This is the result of such a thrashing." Take a listen to what a difficult year in the City of Brotherly Love can draw out of a man. You can catch him performing this Sunday, May 24 at The Fire for the Sundrop Music Fest.
