Weekend Warrior, April 7 - 9

The world continues its trend of being a chaotic and confusing place. So as the week reaches its tail end, the Pilam Human BBQ XXXIX will be offering a refreshing daylong reprieve this Saturday combining music, eats and whatever your debaucherous heart desires. The noon till midnight billing will include nearly 20 acts in all. Among them, the incisive lyricism of Sad13 delivered on an enthusiastic uplifting danceable platform and the emotive electro-pop/rock of Brandon Can’t Dance, who hovers between a solemn solitude and then swims in a sea of infectious grooves. With a new album Dark Nuclear Bogs set to arrive on April 28, the candy-coated psych-carnival of Laser Background will alter one’s perspective, while the reverberating, relatable melodies of Clique lock into your head as will the spellbinding narratives of this year’s Deli Philly Best Emerging Alt Rock Artists Poll winner, Curtis Cooper.  These are but a small sampling of the lineup, which can view in full HERE, so head over to Pilam for a day of sonic sustenance. - Michael Colavita

New Music Video: "Wishful Thinking" - Clique

The video for Clique’s “Wishful Thinking” finds the quartet stepping outdoors, however, remaining in the comfortable seclusion of their living room setting. Directed by the band’s own Travis Arterburn, the footage also features Shannen Moser, whom provided backing vocals on the track, found on Burden Piece, which is available via Topshelf Records. You can also find Clique indoors (thankfully) tonight at Everybody Hits with Ursula, Stove, and Sun Young.

Tutlie Opening for Trails and Ways at KFN Oct. 27

Particularly on a day when the sun takes refuge behind the celestial bodies, one could use a shimmer of solace. Tutlie emerges as a break in the clouds this evening at Kung Fu Necktie. Fusing elegantly ascending vocal harmony with the strong, revitalizing wonderland of instrumentation, hovering in a substantial yet feathery floatation, Tutlie is a refreshingly crisp musical breath, especially when they'll be playing a set of material from their new record. Tonight, they’re paired with the unfiltered emotive pensions of Clique, whose melodic ebb and flow simmers and swells with a tranquil but unsettled energy. This local pairing sets the stage for the brimming bubbles of dream pop from Oakland’s Trails and Ways, whom recently released their sophomore LP Own It. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Clique Record Release Show at Everybody Hits June 10

On their sophomore album Burden Piece, recently released via Topshelf Records, Clique continues to leave their vulnerability unsheltered. The resulting accessibility resonates as the band expresses daily contemplations of emotions in quick flashes of melodic rock, spilling out doubts, fears, and frustrations of the daily routine in a downhill thrust. Tonight, at Everybody Hits, a celebration of the record will occur, where they’ll be joined by grungy tourmates Stove, while the speed-up-and-cruise pop-punk of locals Loose Tooth and the relaxed, incisive, open, bedroom-rock tones of Self Help complete this slate.
