Dark Thoughts

Weekend Warrior, August 24 - 26

At Work,  (Stupid Bag Records/ Drunken Sailor Records) the latest album from Dark Thoughts unleash a blistering, melodic-punk euphoria on their latest album, At Work (Stupid Bag Records/Drunken Sailor Records). The trio forges a forthright, raucous atmosphere – one that  speaks to listeners in a direct, immediate way. It’s a let-loose, launch-into-a-song, hard & fast, sweaty kind of record. It’s a heartfelt, hook-rich release. Tonight at First Unitarian Church, the band will be opening for supercharged shredding of Impalers, the steely snarl of riff-riding locals Grave Turner, and Sedation (who are performing live for only their second time).

BTW: There are numerous landing spots on the musical map in Philly this weekend. Fresh off a run of dates with Hop Along, Thin Lips (and Slaughter Beach, Dog) are making a quick home visit for a sold-out show this Saturday at PhilaMOCA. New release from American Trappist (at Boot & Saddle), Jesus Piece (at Ortlieb’s), and Nothing (Dance on the Blacktop Block Party) will also be echoing through the city’s streets. And of course, freak-folksters Espers triumphantly return to Philly at Union Transfer. So get out, and find your place to be. – Michael Colavita

New Dark Thoughts Album Available for Streaming & Download

After teasing us with a few lo-fi demo cassettes, containing songs featured on their new studio release, Dark Thoughts's sophomore album, At Work, is now available via Stupid Bag Records/Drunken Sailor Records. The band continues to build on their catalogue of Ramones-inspired pop-punk that has carried their tunes from the DIY spaces of Philly to a wider national/international audience. The punk trio is scheduled to head out on the road next month, and will be coming home to a gig at Boot & Saddle, opening for Iron Chic. You can stream and download At Work below.

New Dark Thoughts Live EP Available for Streaming & Download

Philly punk outfit Dark Thoughts is getting ready to release a new full-length album. The band recently stopped by Drexel University's WKDU on April 1, 2018 for a live performance/recording session. The trio surprised the station's listeners with a little preview of its forthcoming LP, Dark Thoughts At Work, pounding out four new songs - "Anything II," "Psycho Ward," "I Wish," and "Gimme Soda," which you can stream and download below. And if you still are thirsty for more, Dark Thoughts will be performing next in Philly at Common Beat on Sunday, June 3 with Cult Objects, as well as Boot & Saddle, on Sunday, July 29, opening for Iron Chic.

New Dark Thoughts Halloween Tape Available for Streaming & Download

A weary, ghostly element permeates throughout Dark Thoughts freshly released Halloween Tape. Meshing that cautiously, creepy aesthetic with the band’s infectious brand of exuberance, the four-song demo set is both befitting the season and a preview of what's to come from the Philly punk crew. Dark Thoughts are scheduled to perform at the LAVA Space tonight, as part of a benefit for the venue that also includes Jenna and the Pups, Dialer, and a Germs cover set, before heading out on a Midwest Halloween run.

Dark Thoughts S/T LP Being Reissued via Get Better Records

Adrenalized, rowdy, instantly catchy punk that sprints from the start, Dark Thoughts' self-titled album doesn’t let up. About a year after its vinyl/digital release on Stupid Bag Records, the LP is scheduled to be reissued on cassette/digital via Get Better Records on April 20. The band finds a balance between ripping aggression and enthusiastic adhesion. Step out of that late week sleepwalking state, and kick things into high gear.
