Philly's own Ranch Records is hosting a Ram 1500-sized event at First Unitarian this Saturday, and I can guarantee there will be a hemi under that hood, a.k.a. top tier performances by your favorite Ranch Jams bands. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Ranch’s output, they’re the ones behind Philadelphia’s finest gloom-punk and junk-rock bands like The Spirit of The Beehive, whose grunge re-meets shoegaze sound ranges from mudflap grit to pure, synthetic motor oil, open road ramblers Dogs on Acid with their whimsical and unfurling power pop, GUNK, whose smudgy slacker-pop songs drawl and tweak like truck-stop thugs, NAH, whose noisy, heavily percussive, electronic glitch music is the sonic equivalent of that rusty, rattling but reliable hemi engine passing the 200,000 mark, and Congenital Death, the reckless, passing-on-the-right power drivers, whose sheer velocity and bellicosity will make you scared for your life. All of the bands mentioned above and more will be playing the Big Gig Truck festival so truck it on over to First Unitarian for a piece of the action. The Superweaks concoct their own brand of power-pop, one, which unites thick twin-lined guitar riffs forging a path for the memorably melodic universally emotive lyrics. Dogs on Acid/Year Of Glad Winter Tour Kickoff at Ortlieb's Dec. 10

Dogs on Acid and Year Of Glad kick off their winter tour with a showing this evening at Ortlieb’s. Dogs On Acid’s self-titled debut is ripe with hook-laced pop punk that rouses in energetic anthem form. Penetrating lyrics coupled with a melodic, determined, forward-thrusting, loose-flowing yet tightly constructed sound, it approaches the personal through an exuberant filter, deflecting the guttural punch. Speaking of excellent self-titled releases, Year Of Glad’s riff & rumble jolt combines with multiple-fronted, harmony-textured vocals causing equilibrium. Adding to this already interesting equation, garage-pop quartet Marge, whose rough-around-the-edges instrumentation, melds with softer-spoken sincerity. Tamar Dart, a.k.a. Dogs on Acid Album Release Show at Graffiti Pier Aug. 29

The kickass quartet, known as Dogs on Acid, celebrates the release of their self-titled debut on Jade Tree with a free show this afternoon at Graffiti Pier. The album stings with its crisp, dashing instrumentation and self-reflecting lyricism. The songs have that home-hitting, hook-snagging quality that allows you to peek inside while also hitching a joy ride. The balance of catchy contemplation given the additional force of rockin' cohesion make their tunes natural to latch on to. Buzzing lo-fi noise rockers Sun Organ (who released an LP Wooden Brain via Ranch Records earlier this summer) get this musical fire started. Graffiti Pier, (Cumberland St. - at N. New Dogs on Acid LP Available for Streaming

Dogs on Acid's self-titled debut LP won’t officially be released via Jade Tree until August 28. However, the wait to hear their contagiously energetic yet personally penetrating indie rock is over. The album premiered yesterday over at Noisey, and you can stream it below. Dogs on Acid will be performing a free record release show this Saturday, August 29 at Graffiti Pier with Sun Organ.
