New Video: "You're Still The One" (Shania Twain Cover) (Live - Swell Tone) - Free Cake For Every Creature & Hello Shark

Katie Bennett (Free Cake For Every Creature) and Lincoln Halloran (Hello Shark) welcomed the folks at Swell Tone into their apartment for a session. Covering Shania Twain’s “You’re Still The One,” the pair performs a bare, acoustic rendition on the couch. Honing in on harmony, the duo unlocks the song’s emotive qualities. You can catch Free Cake For Every Creature when they kick off their tour with Adult Mom on WednesdayMay 31 at Everybody Hits, as part of lineup that also includes Boosegumps and Emily Yacina.

Weekend Warrior, July 15 - 17

The joyous jangle-pop of four-piece Literature is part of a stacked billing at PhilaMOCA this Saturday. The band’s tightly compacted tunes invite you to let loose, smoothly surfing through your ears in an exuberantly catchy bounce. Their brand of indie-pop cruises in a stable, on-the-move, percussive nature as chilled waves of drifting vocal harmony balance the rush of adrenaline-laced instrumentation tempering the fervor. The confessional, melodic power pop of Hurry nonchalantly opens up lyrically, while demonstrating force in fortuitous flashes. With the simplicity of detailed yet semi-whispered, revealing, personal narratives that burst in exuberant moments, Free Cake For Every Creature’s open-book songs bring one in close while carrying a poignant energy. Weaving bits of post-punk, noise, and shoegaze together, Baltimore quintet Wildhoney, who are part of a upcoming 4-way split EP, Continental Drift, which also features Mercury Girls, complete this R5 booking. Weekend Warrior, April 15 - 17

On Saturday, Free Cake For Every Creature celebrates the arrival of their LP Talking Quietly of Anything With You, via Double Double Whammy, with a release show at Girard Avenue DIY space/batting cages, Everybody Hits. The Katie Bennett-led crew explores the daily adjustments that often characterize finding one’s place as an emerging adult, while adapting to a new place. With an invigorating sense of spoken/sung sincerity, united by a jovial, similarly straightforward sense of instrumentation, the songs’ endearing relatable stories come across loud and clear, while their hushed vocal quality entrusts the listener. Cut from a like-minded cloth Carmen Perry, a.k.a. Addie Pray, hits you with a dose of intimate adventure, while the uninhibited, melodic poetry of Hello Shark aches and empowers, flipping the script on self-awareness. The experimental folk of Microsoft Saint completes the local bill. Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave., 8pm, $7, All Ages - Michael Colavita
