The park provides an excellent setting allowing the natural feeling of the performance to shine through.

New Music Video: "Take On Me" - Free Cake For Every Creature

The new music video for Free Cake For Every Creature’s “Take On Me,” which can be found on Moving Songs, (Double Double Whammy) offers a glimpse into that bedroom sound via a VHS recording. These images reinforce the direct candid nature of the lyrics and how they can hit home. Before a run of west coast dates with I Tried to Run Away When I Was 6, Free Cake For Every Creature is set to perform this Wednesday at Kat Frat on a bill that also includes The Goodbye Party, Small Wonder, and Care.

Blue Smiley Opening for Girlpool at Nico Nico Mansion June 27

Describing Blue Smiley’s latest LP as ok works in name only. The trio has found a delicate balance, weaving in and out of the onslaught of fuzzed-out and soft-spoken, semi-muted vocals, peeling back that outer and revealing a calmer rhythmic-oriented foundation. That adaptable sense offers an up-close glance, and then steps into battle, ramping up at a blistering pace and then slowing down again - all while the constant contextual smattering of percussion serves as a stabilizing gauge. The trio is a part of an excellent billing tonight at Nico Nico Mansion, which also includes Free Cake For Every Creature, the Katie Bennett-fronted group, whose songs occupy the intimacy of a bedroom, lyrically exploring the adventures of an ever-changing perspective in a catchy honest manner. The duo of Cleo Tucker & Harmony Tividad, otherwise known as Girlpool, similarly captures a youthful essence that touches on innocence and simultaneously cuts deeper as a naturally catchy bass-guitar combination permeates. Californian folk-crooning outfit Watercolor Paintings/Drawing Water on tour with Dark Shrines (of The Color Green) tie together a balanced introspective billing. Nico Nico Mansion, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 8pm, $5-$7 Donation, All Ages - Michael Colavita

Free Cake For Every Creature - Eat It Up at PhilaMOCA April 5

Honesty shines at the forefront of Katie Bennett-led Free Cake For Every Creature. Tonight, the band performs at PhilaMOCA, as Bennett unguardedly displays stream of consciousness observations. With endearing episodic narrative tunes that thrive in a minimalistic twee nature, she unlocks that door to her mind, letting listeners see the world through her eyes, while tagging along as passengers in her day-to-day accounts. Free Cake For Every Creature just released their new album Moving Songs via Double Double Whammy earlier this week. Labelmate, former Philly native, and now NYC resident Eskimeaux, a.k.a. Gabrielle Smith, delivers catchy flashes of experimental bedroom pop and with a new LP O.K. due out May 12, a set of fresh material may be on display. Immerse yourself in the sad reflective bedroom punk of quartet Told Slant, which also features Smith. Electro powerpop New Yorkers Crying supply a potently transferable kinetic energy with chiptune accents. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 7pm, $10, All Ages - Michael Colavita
