Hurry Record Release Show at Everybody Hits May 6

This evening at Everybody Hits locals Hurry will be celebrating the release of their new LP Guided Meditation, out now via Lame-O-Records. The positive reviews have already started coming in for the album, and are well-deserved. The project has come a long way from Matt Scottoline’s bedroom (probably?) to a tight and polished trio with 2 LPs under the belt. The group is filled out by the DeCarolis duo of Rob (ex-Univox) and Joe (Psychic Teens), who play drums and bass respectively. Markedly more produced, Guided Meditation drops a lot of the fuzz for nimble lead guitar lines and shifts in dynamics. Not to say there isn’t still a bunch of crunchy guitars, because there are, but the range of Scottoline’s songwriting and the bands attention to detail are more apparent on this latest batch of recordings. Fans of Teenage Fanclub will still dig this album, but so will fans of Brian Wilson. The guys from Hurry also recruited a bunch of friend’s to come along for the ride tonight, which includes Telepathic, Fake Problems frontman Chris Farren, and Cave People. Everybody Hits, 529 W Girard Ave., 8:30pm, $5, All Ages - Adam G.

New Hurry LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Matt Scottoline and the Hurry gang have scraped away the fuzz on their new LP, giving us a polished powerpop album in Guided Meditation. The band just released its latest recordings on vinyl and in digital format via Lame-O Records and on cassette via Forward Fast. You can join them in welcoming the album's arrival this Friday, May 6 at Everybody Hits with Cave People, Telepathic, and Chris Farren.

New Track: "When I'm With You" - Hurry

It seems that frontman Matt Scottoline has totally embraced his pop sensibilities on Hurry's forthcoming album Guided Meditation. Below is the second sampling, called "When I'm With You," off the new record, which will be out on April 29 via Lame-O Records. You can also join Hurry for their release celebration on Friday, May 6 at Everybody Hits.

New Music Video: "Nothing To Say" - Hurry

Despite initially depicting ideal daydream-like success, the new music video for "Nothing To Say" consistently finds Hurry's Matt Scottoline's literary pursuits rejected. As a result, the dejected writer deposits his old school G3 Powerbook in the trash. Found on the band's forthcoming LP Guided Meditation, which is set for release on April 29 via Lame-O Records, "Nothing to Say" possesses a gentle swaying melody that captures the apathetic sadness of failure. Everybody Hits will be hosting Hurry’s record release show on Friday, May 6, and the bill will also includes Telepathic and Cave People.

Beach Slang Celebrates "One Year of Being a Band That Plays Shows" at PhilaMOCA July 27

Beach Slang caught us by surprise last year with Who Would Ever Want Anything So Broken? and Cheap Thrills On A Dead End Street, two impressive EPs that found the Philly music scene vets reminding us of old favorites like The Replacements and Social Distortion. The group was eventually snatched up by Polyvinyl Records, and is currently wrapping up a run of Northeast gigs tonight at PhilaMOCA to celebrate its "One Year of Being a Band That Plays Shows." Along for the recent string of shows has been lovable fuzz-pop trio Hurry. And you'll also find powerpop enthusiasts Mike Bell & The Movies and post-punkers Ghost Gum rounding out this stacked evening of local talent. So extend your weekend just one more night! PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $14, All Ages - Q.D. Tran
