New Music Video: "Life" (Feat. Dave B) - Ivy Sole

Emerging from a full bathtub, a man reads a bedside suicide note. He then attempts to search for and confront his demons in the video for “Life” by Ivy Sole. Featuring Dave B, the song, found on Sole's latest album East, contemplates finding the balance between dwelling on the downturns and placing an emphasis on the positive, as it applies to mental health. She is currently slated to headline MilkBoy on Wednesday, August 30, as part of The Key Philly music showcase that also inclueds Aphra and Cheeky. (Photo by Araba Ankuma)

East, the new EP from Ivy Sole, hits deep. In moments, that punch is a bass-thumping, powerfully poetic pronouncement. It swims in delicate jazz/soul-orchestrated instrumentation, injecting a full spectrum of samples that shift the perspective in an organic manner. The collection thrives in Ivy Sole’s confident, unhesitating, free-flowing execution, splicing singing and spoken word into heartfelt movements. The Penn alum will be speaking on campus next Friday, February 17 at Platt Student Performing Arts House, where she'll be leading a discussion about the recording industry from her experiences.

New Track: "Life" (Feat. Dave B) - Ivy Sole

Featuring Seattle emcee Dave B and produced by Kam DeLa, "Life," the new single from Ivy Sole, seamlessly intertwines an elegant, simplistic beat with a blend of reflectively active lyrical lines. They mesh the soul-oriented nature of the chorus, and then enhance the depth of detail with decisive rhymes. The track, which can be found on her forthcoming release East, maintains a natural ease, while demonstrating power.

Ivy Sole Opening for Sammus & Sad13 at PhilaMOCA Oct. 29

Soulful storytelling with a purposeful, self-conscious confidence, Philly-by-way-of-Charlotte emcee Ivy Sole delivers lyrical tales, swimming through thoughtful complexly-detailed narratives that are amplified by production that smoothly cruises on the boom-bap. It’s a fresh nod to old-school overtures that exudes a personal appeal through sincerity, meshing spoken word with singing in a laidback message. The rattling, fluorescent noise-pop of Empath aids in setting the stage for Sad13, a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Oritz, whose new solo album Slugger is due out November 11, explores personal issues through a bright, pop lense. Sammus, who released her debut album Pieces in Space yesterday via Don Giovanni Records and appears on Slugger, completes this PhilaMOCA billing.
