Kite Party

Kite Party LP Release Show at PhilaMOCA May 8

Just in time for summer, Kite Party have released a new full-length with plenty of vibrant indie-rock anthems that are perfect for the season. Long before they mixed Come on Wandering, the quintet have been previewing songs like “Halflife” and “Summery Dream” at shows and through their social media channels. And the end result has increased the anticipation for their sophomore LP that gives them much to celebrate during tonight’s release party at PhilaMOCA. It will also be a good opportunity to catch Kite Party and their friends Three Man Cannon before they embark on tour together later this month. The Scranton/Philly outfit that features former members of Tigers Jaw have much to celebrate as well since they will also be releasing their next album, Pretty Many People, on May 27 via Lame-O Records. The show also features Thin Lips (ex-Dangerous Ponies, ex-Tigers Jaw), GUNK, and The Spirit of the Beehive. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $7, All Age - Bill McThrill

They'll be celebrating its release this Thursday, May 8 at PhilaMOCA with a stacked lineup of friends that includes Three Man Cannon, Gunk, Thin Lips, and The Spirit of the Beehive. New Track: “Summery Dream” - Kite Party

Just in time for some nice weather, Kite Party has released a hazy, laid-back track that is somewhere between their punk-rock roots and Yo La Tengo. The shoe-gaze guitars and distant vocals would go great with a beer and sitting on a stoop.  So get to it.

New Track: "Halflife" - Kite Party

You might notice a more patient, chilled-out sounding Kite Party on their latest track "Halflife," which may be a hint to the musical direction that they'll be exploring on their next record. It's the first single off the band's upcoming full-length album Come On Wandering, and premiered yesterday over at Stereogum. The sophomore follow-up to 2011's Baseball Season is scheduled for release on May 6 via Annaheim-based indie label Animal Style Records.

The Weaks EP Release Party at Golden Tea House Feb. 7

Tonight, Golden Tea House welcomes Evan Bernard and Chris Baglivo, combining forces as The Weaks. Celebrating the release of their debut EP, The World Is a Terrible Place & I Hate Myself and I Want to Die, available via Lame-O Records on February 11, this duo, formerly of Dangerous Ponies, perform ironed-out power pop fusing it with punk influences. The results are catchy songs with clear guitar lines and an energetic nature, that new yet-familiar vibe, which places songs in frequent rotation. Thin Lips, a new venture that finds another pair of Dangerous Ponies Chrissy Tashijan and Kyle Pulley with Tigers Jaw/Three Man Cannon drummer Pat Brier, will also be there sharing in the joyous occasion. The trio is geared in a punk-oriented direction, coupling heavier riff-churning guitar and tumbling percussion with Tashijan’s commanding vocals. Rounding out the bill will be indie-rockers Kite Party, who find a balance between Russell Edling’s emotive vocals with steady yet bubbling under the surface instrumentation that breaks at opportune moments, and Tacoma, Washington hardcore foursome Cowardice. Golden Tea House, (Please email goldenteahouse42069@gmail.com for more info.), 7:30, All Ages - Michael Colavita
