New smth savant Compilation Available for Streaming & Purchase

Music collective smth savant was formed last year by Philly producers Kilamanzego and Madam Data. Their monthly performance series Backyard Bxss has offered a common space for local beatmakers, showcasing experimental electronic producers and singers. The events are often live streamed on their Facebook page. As smth savant approach their first anniversary, they’ve released a compilation, featuring associated artists like Orion Sun and Mental Jewelry (both Mental Jewelry and Madam Data have collaborated with acclaimed Philly sound sculptor/emcee Moor Mother). The collective have facilitated some really exciting music in their first year, and this compilation is a solid retrospective on what they’ve already achieved. - Josh Kelly

New Music Video: "Streets Dept" - Moor Mother x Mental Jewelry

An ominous bass rumble bubbles to the surface in Moor Mother x Mental Jewelry's "Street Dept," before angular guitar runs slice through the atmospherics. Found on the duo's joint venture, Crime Waves (Don Giovanni), last year, the distorted footage of the artists is viewed through a crimson-filtered lens, contributing to the sinister presence maintained throughout the project's latest offering. Step into what might just be the unlikeliest of street anthems.

Weekend Warrior, June 16 - 18

Corresponding with today’s release of their new EP Crime Waves (Don Giovanni), creative collaborators Moor Mother and Mental Jewelry are tabbed to perform at their release show this evening at Trash House. Slowed-down, trance-inducing, grim and grimy beats cultivate a sonic canvas on which Camae Ayewa lyrically paints. An unwavering, impassioned perseverance permeates as the music continues a timeline of commentary, extending in both directions. Smacking with sincerity, this collection of songs retains a raw refinement that’s penetratingly powerful. Tonight’s show, presented by All Mutable, also features the minimalist noise/hip hop of Manikineter, a.k.a. Carl Kavorkian, the discovery-oriented, space-age, electro beats of Madam Data and the continuously-morphing, bass-forward beats of Kilamanzego. - Michael Colavita

New Track: "Hardware" - Moor Mother x Mental Jewelry

In collaboration alongside local producer Mental Jewelry, Moor Mother will release a new EP Crime Waves via Don Giovanni Records on June 16. Utilizing an entrenching, bass-blasting beat, “Hardware” is a grimy tale of perseverance in spite of saddening violence. It’s a heavy sobering commentary. Moor Mother will also be appearing this evening at The Rotunda.
