Minka

New MINKA Album Available for Streaming & Download

A graceful, classical-meets-electronica convergence flows as one listens to the new MINKA album, Reincarnation. The complexity of the compositions is tastefully complemented by beat-driven movements. An elegant, serenity glides along as the vocals guide us through the seamless mergers of these recordings. It's a more subdued MINKA than you might be used to, but in a very good way. Enjoy!

New MINKA EP Available for Streaming & Download

Born In The Viper Room is the new EP from MINKA. Channeling the casually suave voicing and insatiable funky combinations of Bowie/Byrne, the band sits in a happy medium of loose, undeniably danceable compositions. Those delightful, demanding grooves, steered by crowd-commanding, eye-connecting vocals, set the wheels in motion. You can catch them live, in the flesh, at The Barbary on Thursday, June 15.

New Track: "Company Man" - MINKA

Calling to mind a hybrid of the Davids - Byrne & Bowie, Ari "Dick" Rubin, Max Perla, Joe Flack, and Barney Cortez (Nicos Gun, Rich Mystics), better known as MINKA, are gearing up to release their new EP Born in the Viper Room. The title gives a nod to infamous Sunset Strip club (once owned by Johnny Depp), where the late, great River Phoenix took his last breath that fateful Halloween morning of 1993 (and is supposedly where Cortez, the band's most recent addition, was born). Take a listen to the Philly electro-rockers' latest single, "Company Man," from their forthcoming album, and look out for the MINKA dance party/carnival coming to a venue near you!

Weekend Warrior, April 14 - 16

Stinking Lizaveta commemorate their latest record, Journey to the Underworld (Translation Loss Records, with a release show this evening at Johnny Brenda’s. The well-oiled, musical machine of a trio reigns down on listeners with an adventurous heavy exactness. Under the shield of an ominous darkness, the band traverses the unknown obstacles that lie in its path. With a cold, calculated, white-hot laser tenacity, Stinking Lizaveta forge a route, trudging on the pace of the underlying heart-pumping instrumentation that is always ready to detonate. Sheena & Thee Nosebleeds and The Company Corvette will reinforce this hard-rocking, psych-tinged sonic stew.

Also, this Saturday evening, The Foundry hosts The MINKA Carnival. Insatiable, loose, funky grooves permeate from MINKA, it’s the type that dictates/demands one to slip subconsciously into the get down. Meanwhile, having recently uncorked their new EP New Age Psychedelic Experiment, The Mysteries implore a casual psych-pop framework, while the multi-genre-melding, seamless stream of beats from Attic Tapes, formerly known as Fishtown Beats, sets the night into motion. - Michael Colavita
