No Thank You

Weekend Warrior, February 24 - 26

The weather’s unseasonably warm temperatures may push one out the door in search of good musical times. Luckily the docket is full of excellent opportunities. Among the plethora of performances on the slate, First Unitarian Church plays host to a pair. Proceeds from tonight’s Indie Pop Prom will go the Pink Fund. As for the billing, the incisive, empowering songwriting of Sad13, a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis (of Speedy Ortiz), keeps things real, delivering in a contagious, free-flowing, instrumental platform. Similarly, Sports navigate personal depths through an avalanche of momentous pop rock. The blooming, experimental jangle of Mercury Girls and the nostalgic, melodic pop-punk of Swanning shape a stellar evening, which also includes headliners, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Meanwhile, Saturday’s 10th annual Two Piece Fest will be offering an all-day affair, exploring the full spectrum of dynamics among duos. You can view the full list of performers for the festival HERE.
Creeping into one’s foggy, THC-filled mind, the cosmic conquests of folk-psych outfit Shadow Band celebrate their freshly landed album, Wilderness Of Love (Mexican Summer), with a release show this Saturday at Baird Mansion Atrium. Likewise, the trio of No Thank You sets sail with their new album, Jump Ship (Lame-O Records), with a show tonight at Everybody Hits. The album exhibits an impassioned, emotive exploration with a cathartic air that makes one stay onboard. - Michael Colavita

New No Thank You Album Available for Streaming

No Thank You, the fledgling project from Kaytee Della-Monica, teeters between reflective open spaces and rambuctious, revealing powerpop on her first label release, Jump Ship. It's another gem of a discovery from Philly's own Lame-O Records. The record officially comes out this Friday, February 24, but you can now stream Jump Ship in its entirety below. Clocking in at under twenty minutes, it might end much sooner than you'd like; however, a lasting impression remains long after the music has stopped. You can also join Della-Monica and friends on the evening of her release at Everybody Hits, before she heads out on tour this weekend with The Superweaks in support of her latest.

Weekend Warrior, February 3 - 5

Celebrating new music is the encompassing motif as this week draws to its end. The Menzingers surprised fans, booking an intimate, sold-out show this evening at Kung Fu Necktie. And neighboring Fishtown music venue/watering hole Johnny Brenda’s will also be playing host to a dual record release show. Dominic, a.k.a. Dominic Angelella (Lithuania, DRGN KING), uncorks Goodnight, Doggies., which is now available via Lame-O Records. The set of songs explore personal levels, retaining a lingering depth, while exhibiting the warmth of comforting, melodic instrumentation. Available via Mutual Crush, Girard Freeloader, the latest from Norwegian Arms, is textured electro-soul, finding a delicate balance between the steady, omnipresent flow of bright beats and the gentle plucks from Brendan Mulvihill’s signature mandolin work. With a new record, Jump Ship, scheduled for release via Lame-O on February 24, No Thank You, a.k.a. Kaytee Della Monica, will be opening the festivities.
Garage-psych rockers American Dinosaur will also be celebrating the release of their latest EP One for the Birds this Saturday at MilkBoy. They’ll be kicking the jams with Philly electro-rock outfit Man Like Machine and Harrisonburg, VA indie popsters The Dawn Drapes. - Michael Colavita

New Track: "Juicy J" - No Thank You & Signs to Lame-O Records

After recording her first EP A Nü Start on an iPhone at her home in South Philly, No Thank You, a.k.a. Kaytee Della-Monica, has teamed up with The Superweaks' Evan Bernard (recording) and Chris Baglivo (mixing) for her first full-length album. And apparently, Lame-O Records likes what its family members have been working on. The DIY Philly label has recently brought Della-Monica into the fold, signing her to its impressive, growing roster. No Thank You's forthcoming LP Jump Ship is scheduled for release on February 24. Check out the lusher-sounding, new version of her lead single, "Juicy J," below! (Photo by Pete Murray)
