Nothing Opening for Swirlies at JB’s July 21

Moody shoegazers Nothing, known for sweeping soundscapes, are set to share the stage tonight with the legendary Swirlies, replacing Arc In Round, who had to drop off the bill at the last minute. Brooding and empathetic, tracks like “If Only” and “The Dives (Lazarus in Ashes)” with its nearly instrumental arcs that bleed into stirring vocals, Nothing’s precise instrumentation comprised of percussive hums, fuzzed-out riffs, and haunting vocals keep listeners’ attention in anticipation of their soon to be released LP Guilty of Everything. Crafting songs inspired by dead poets, childhood friends, and the complexities of the human condition, the band’s live set, much like their discography, can be expected to be emotively and audibly shaking and equally memorable - undoubtedly, a well-fitted prelude to an evening with the Swirlies. Get swept away! Johnny Brenda’s. 1201 N. Frankford Ave., $12, 8pm, 21+ - Dianca Potts

Rediscovered Video: "Downward Years To Come" (RIPNDIP Re-Edit Contest) - Nothing

Check out this rad video of skateboarder Blake Carpenter effortlessly pulling off some sick tricks to Nothing's "Downward Years To Come"! It was created for clothing line RIPNDIP's "Re-Edit Contest." Nothing will be performing tonight at The Barbary opening San Francisco black metal post-rockers Deafheaven and LA's Marriages. (BTW: Snatch up your tickets quick because this show is nearly sold out.) Enjoy!

Nothing Bringing Along a Grey Storm Cloud of Reflection at KFN May 30

A grey storm cloud of reflection casts its sights on KFN tonight when Nothing enters the building. Surrounding you with a heavy-hitting sonic wall of haze, the band pushes a fog-inducing pensive state coupled with a fury-driven instrumentation that smacks you back toward reality. Nothing will be joined by the synth-driven, deep-space dream that is Arc In Round. The show will also include Austin dream-pop outfit Ringo Deathstarr and eclectic, noisy Brooklyn experimentalists Grooms. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Music Video: "The Dives (Lazarus in Ashes)" - Nothing

Local shoegaze-y outfit Nothing premiered a new upbeat (just kidding) music video earlier today via Brooklyn Vegan for the song "The Dives (Lazarus in Ashes)" from last year's EP Downward Years to Come (A389). It was produced by BITBY. The band is currently on tour with Whirr heading to SXSW.

Weekend Warrior, November 23 - 25

Ortlieb’s Lounge will be welcoming in some darker vibes than they’re used to when Nothing and Night Sins both celebrate their latest releases tonight at the jazz-friendly venue. Led by Domenic Palermo, Nothing infuses some of the aggression that its members were influenced by while growing up immersed in the local hardcore scene yet their mellowed-out shoegaze soundscapes have a breath of maturity and contemplativeness that can only be discovered amidst a lifetime of hard living, which you’ll find on their latest EP Downward Years to Come (A389 Records). Night Sins, who are made up of musicians from Nothing, Mother of Mercy and Salvation, have recently crept into the earphones of the Philly music community with their take on the goth/industrial sounds of yore from the band’s first full-length album, New Grave (Avant! Records). It will certainly be a Black Friday in Ortlieb’s this evening. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. 3rd St., 9pm, $10, 21+ - Alexis V.
