OhBree Berning Down the House at Lavender Town March 11

This evening at Lavender Town, a smattering of Philly acts, who have all been feeling the Bern, are converging for a night of music, with all funds going to the Bernie Sanders campaign. Tonight is highlighted by OhBree, who will also be celebrating the release of their new EP Feed Me Poison (which you can now stream HERE). The quirk-pop orchestrations that Oh Bree have been not-so-quietly-crafting come to a zany, precise, and satisfying head on their latest album. Similar to Philly’s Man Man, the eccentric and lighthearted music is often a sugar coating for the more sinister stories below. The band plays around with what sounds like every noise-making object that they can find in the studio, but the innovative songwriting by Andrew Scott grounds every tune, allowing their playfulness to be highlighted without distracting too much from the music. Also playing tonight are Mumblr, who just had a fundraiser of their own for a new van last week at Lavender Town. I haven’t heard anything about a sweet new ride yet so don’t be shy about passing some cash their way as well. The bill is filled out by Howlish, Fidel SUN, Dead and Birthday Ponies. There is also Day 2 happening on Saturday at Girard Hall. Show your support, and get some serious Bern for your buck! Lavender Town, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 6pm, $10, All Ages (Photo by Emily Dubin) - Adam G.

New Track: "Manfish" - OhBree

On March 11, the troupe of OhBree will release its new EP Feed Me Poison. The album's first single, “Manfish,” embodies the group’s zany, humor-laden style. It’s a twisted brand of art-pop/rock that captures a youthful and at times, cartoonish joy that will make you crack a smile and add it into your rotation. OhBree will also be playing an EP release show on the evening of the the record's arrival at Lavender Town as part of the Bernie Sanders benefit Berning Man, which also includes Birthday PoniesDeadFidel SUNHowlish, and Mumblr. New Music Video: "Salt" - OhBree

Cigarette eating, red-painted (blood-smeared) faces, eggs cracked atop of heads, and smashed ukuleles, the new music video for “Salt” by OhBree matches the band’s eccentric yet contagious art-pop aesthetic. The group's playful, oddball, circus sound delightfully twists and echoes in one’s head. On August 27 at PhilaMOCA, OhBree will celebrate the vinyl release of their 2014 LP Death by Broomstick. The show will also feature Dead TenorsAPES record release (as they go on an indefinite hiatus), as well as Upholstery and Ganou.

New Track: "Jailbird" - Dead Tenors

Folk-rock quartet Dead Tenors has released a new song “Jailbird”.  Featured on the band’s forthcoming release APES, the song incorporates a one-sided confessional monologue with tension relieving instrumental backlash. Currently on the road, the band returns home for their record release show August 27 at PhilaMOCA with at Upholstery, Ohbree, and Ganou.

Status Quo w/OhBree at The Fire Sept. 24

Tormenting yet playful like some delightfully twisted subconscious dream concoction, where slightly off-kilter becomes the status quo, OhBree will be performing tonight at The Fire. With songs that tap into a theatrical/dramatic with quirky, catchy lyrics and instrumentation that varies from bright, cheery keys and horn combinations to more heavily clouded, grey mood makers, you can't help hearing the influence of local favorites Man Man. Like their forefathers, OhBree warps listeners into their musical world, and it’s a compelling place. Joining OhBree on the bill will be Mike Bell's previous incarnation Mike Bell & The World’s Most Unremarkable Band, as well as local pop-punk outfit The Goodbye Party (featuring Michael Cantor of The Ambulars) with New York’s Gladshot completing the bill. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 8:30 pm, $7, 21+ - Michael Colavita
