Weekend Warrior, April 7 - 9

The world continues its trend of being a chaotic and confusing place. So as the week reaches its tail end, the Pilam Human BBQ XXXIX will be offering a refreshing daylong reprieve this Saturday combining music, eats and whatever your debaucherous heart desires. The noon till midnight billing will include nearly 20 acts in all. Among them, the incisive lyricism of Sad13 delivered on an enthusiastic uplifting danceable platform and the emotive electro-pop/rock of Brandon Can’t Dance, who hovers between a solemn solitude and then swims in a sea of infectious grooves. With a new album Dark Nuclear Bogs set to arrive on April 28, the candy-coated psych-carnival of Laser Background will alter one’s perspective, while the reverberating, relatable melodies of Clique lock into your head as will the spellbinding narratives of this year’s Deli Philly Best Emerging Alt Rock Artists Poll winner, Curtis Cooper.  These are but a small sampling of the lineup, which can view in full HERE, so head over to Pilam for a day of sonic sustenance. - Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, February 24 - 26

The weather’s unseasonably warm temperatures may push one out the door in search of good musical times. Luckily the docket is full of excellent opportunities. Among the plethora of performances on the slate, First Unitarian Church plays host to a pair. Proceeds from tonight’s Indie Pop Prom will go the Pink Fund. As for the billing, the incisive, empowering songwriting of Sad13, a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis (of Speedy Ortiz), keeps things real, delivering in a contagious, free-flowing, instrumental platform. Similarly, Sports navigate personal depths through an avalanche of momentous pop rock. The blooming, experimental jangle of Mercury Girls and the nostalgic, melodic pop-punk of Swanning shape a stellar evening, which also includes headliners, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Meanwhile, Saturday’s 10th annual Two Piece Fest will be offering an all-day affair, exploring the full spectrum of dynamics among duos. You can view the full list of performers for the festival HERE.

Creeping into one’s foggy, THC-filled mind, the cosmic conquests of folk-psych outfit Shadow Band celebrate their freshly landed album, Wilderness Of Love (Mexican Summer), with a release show this Saturday at Baird Mansion Atrium. Likewise, the trio of No Thank You sets sail with their new album, Jump Ship (Lame-O Records), with a show tonight at Everybody Hits. The album exhibits an impassioned, emotive exploration with a cathartic air that makes one stay onboard. - Michael Colavita

New Music Video: "A Message to Your Jealous Boyfriend" - Sad13

We recently shared the '90s-style group dance video for the consent-pop anthem, "Get A Yes," from Sad13, a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis of Spedy Ortiz, earlier this month. Well, she's already back with more visual stimulation and her touring bandmates for "a message to your jealous boyfriend". The single "is about how important it is to trust your partner’s friends, regardless of those friends’ gender identity (because to do anything else is some heteronormative toxic B.S.!)." She also recruited BuzzFeed Video's Sara Rubin, whom Sadie befriended as a child at Buck's Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp in Central Connnecticut, to direct the video. "A Message to Your Jealous Boyfriend" can be found on Dupuis' solo debut LP, Slugger, out now via Carpark Records.

Sad13 Slugs It Out at Everybody Hits Dec. 12

After being advised to take a break from releases this year with her band Speedy Ortiz to avoid having fans get burned out, Sadie Dupuis found herself with an excess of songs that she had already written, inspiring her to record her debut solo effort as Sad13. Slugger (which is now available via Carpark Record) became a new lo-fi, electro-pop vehicle for Dupuis to tackle personal and societal issues. She is also currently on her first solo tour in support of the new LP, and it will be making a stop home this evening at Everybody Hits. She’ll be joined by tourmate Vagabon, the project of NYC guitarist and singer Laetitia Tamko, and dream-pop artist Emily Reo. (BTW: Unfortunately, Told Slant, who had been originally announced to perform, is no longer on the bill after getting picked up by Elvis Depressedly for their latest tour.) Everybody Hits, 529 W. New Music Video: "Get A Yes" - Sad13

Sad13, a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz, created a new "tribute to '90s-style group dance videos" with an 80's workout aesthetic for her consent-pop anthem "Get A Yes". It was shot at the Silent Barn in Brooklyn, and directed by Isabel Farrington. Dupuis is currently on her first solo tour, which will be making a stop home in Philly this Monday, December 12 at Everybody Hits.
