Sad13

New Sad13 LP Available for Streaming

While Slugger, the new album from Sad13 (a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz), won’t be officially released via Carpark Records until November 11, it can currently be heard in advance below via NPR Music’s First Listen. These songs shimmer while delving into the incisive, relationship-detailing, personal anecdotes and exploring complex issues of gender roles, equality, marginalization, etc. It’s a bright collection of music illuminating big picture social issues through concise layers of lyrical depth. Sad13 will be performing next in Philly alongside Vagabon, Emily Reo, and Told Slant on Monday, December 12 at Everybody Hits. (Photo by Shervin Lainez)

Ivy Sole Opening for Sammus & Sad13 at PhilaMOCA Oct. 29

Soulful storytelling with a purposeful, self-conscious confidence, Philly-by-way-of-Charlotte emcee Ivy Sole delivers lyrical tales, swimming through thoughtful complexly-detailed narratives that are amplified by production that smoothly cruises on the boom-bap. It’s a fresh nod to old-school overtures that exudes a personal appeal through sincerity, meshing spoken word with singing in a laidback message. The rattling, fluorescent noise-pop of Empath aids in setting the stage for Sad13, a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Oritz, whose new solo album Slugger is due out November 11, explores personal issues through a bright, pop lense. Sammus, who released her debut album Pieces in Space yesterday via Don Giovanni Records and appears on Slugger, completes this PhilaMOCA billing.
