SandCastle

New Sandcastle EP Available for Streaming & Download

A meandering melancholy of doo wop, medieval folk, and indie rock, Sandcastle's The Vampire was released at an ever-appropriate time. Featuring contributions from Zach Robbins and Josh Mackie (Dark Mtns, Flight Habit, Sun Organ) as well as Josh Meakim (A Sunny Day in Glasgow, The Fantastic Imagination), the album creates a cautionary sense of comfort, as if something is slight amiss. Sam Kassel and Dan Angel form a bewitching pair. It’s drearily delightful as one slips into the darkness.

A damp dreariness meshes with soothsayer, psych guidance on Blackberry Wine, the freshly hatched EP from Sandcastle. Distant vocals mystically beckon. Enchantingly drawn closer, one fights the urge to fall under the musical spell, remaining alert and on guard. Tinged in lovely loneliness, the journey is a relaxing requiem.

Philly's own Sandcastle emerge from their musical lair to traverse across a psych-folk/pop terrain on their new album Netherodes. Nomadic riffs and fragile sometimes eerie vocals complement each other, creating a mystical air around the latest batch of recordings. The EP is made up of five original tracks, accompanied by opener, "How Sweet I Roam'd," which contains the words of William Blake laid over the traditional Scottish folk composition of "The Water Is Wide". You can stream and download Netherodes for free below.

New Track: "Wishes in the Raindrops" - Sandcastle

It's been a little over a year since we've heard any new material from Sandcastle. However, the group has resurfaced to support Bandcamp's benefit campaign, which will be donating all proceeds from sales today to the ACLU. The band will also be donating all its proceeds, and plans to make its new record available for free download (hopefully later this month). Check out Sandcastle's lovely new single, "Wishes in the Raindrop," off the group's forthcoming album, whose working title is currently Netherodes Vol. I: Sunflowers for the Unnameable Daughter, and give all you can!

Sandcastle has issued a new EP Emeralds of Opium. It creeps into your consciousness as lurking keys and fragile, exposed vocals are brightened with a meshing of folky jangle and warm synth hue. It's close, and still feels like a transmission from a distant zone.
