Bondage & Discipline Play Inaugural Show at Kung Fu Necktie Tonight

It came as a shock to many when supercharged, electronically-infused punk band The National Rifle announced that they were disbanding and starting a new project in late 2013. But the bands remaining members Hugh Morretta, Lynna Stancato, and Buddy Mazzenga used their downtime to create a bold new project, Bondage & Discipline, that relies more heavily on the electronic beats and female vocals that they utilized so well as The National Rifle.

If the debut track "Only Your Love" is any indication, they don’t steer too far from the melodic, stomping-good tracks of old. Tonight’s debut performance will be a good preview of even more of the tracks that they recorded at Cambridge Sound for a forthcoming album. It will also be a show that nearly marks the 5th anniversary of Revolution I Love You’s first show. It will be a good time to celebrate with the band that has been doing big things since releasing their latest EP Atlantic Ocean.  The lineup will be rounded out by Sandcastle.  Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St, 7PM, $5 21+ – Bill McThrill

SandCastle Opening for Laser Background at KFN July 12

As the eerily grey clouds cast an ominous outlook on today's tone. They also serve as an excellent predictor of this evening's events at KFN, where a pair of devious, dark yet melodic musical creations is set to hit the stage. SandCastle takes their low-fi creepy vocal exterior and uses it to provide a fresh cover over a folky melodic core. This layered concept reaches out into a new frontier when energetic, spacey electronics are utilized allowing songs to branch out into unfound territory. They will be opening for Andy Moholt's deliciously twisted psych-pop concoction created with his band Laser Background. Their tunes hover over the threshold between carnivalistic deviousness and crystalized melodic pop. It’s an early show so hit happy hour and then head on over. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7pm, $8, 21+ - Michael Colavita

Pancakes & Booze Art Show w/SandCastle & Goddamnit at RUBA Club May 31

When LA’s famous Pancakes & Booze Art Show was originally slated to arrive at the Bookspace a couple years back, it touted a number of reasons to go that went well beyond the whipped cream and maple syrup. And when it ended up being canceled just as quickly as it was slated to arrive, it turned more than one chocolate chip smiley face upside down. But the event has finally found a home at RUBA Club tonight, and will feature the work of over 50 local underground and emerging artists, live body painting, a live art battle, and an all-you-can-eat pancake bar with all the fixins, as well as music. The event will feature the mysterious lo-fi, psych-pop of SandCastle, the new project of Da Comrade! alum Micah Edwards. Also, in just a short amount of time, Goddamnit has managed to find a home at Creep Records with their beer-filled guitar rock anthems. RUBA Club, 416 Green St., 8pm, $5, 21+ - Bill McThrill
