Pancakes & Booze Art Show w/SandCastle & Goddamnit at RUBA Club May 31

When LA’s famous Pancakes & Booze Art Show was originally slated to arrive at the Bookspace a couple years back, it touted a number of reasons to go that went well beyond the whipped cream and maple syrup. And when it ended up being canceled just as quickly as it was slated to arrive, it turned more than one chocolate chip smiley face upside down. But the event has finally found a home at RUBA Club tonight, and will feature the work of over 50 local underground and emerging artists, live body painting, a live art battle, and an all-you-can-eat pancake bar with all the fixins, as well as music. The event will feature the mysterious lo-fi, psych-pop of SandCastle, the new project of Da Comrade! alum Micah Edwards. Also, in just a short amount of time, Goddamnit has managed to find a home at Creep Records with their beer-filled guitar rock anthems. RUBA Club, 416 Green St., 8pm, $5, 21+ - Bill McThrill

New Track: "II" - SandCastle

We were mesmerized by SandCastle's creepy, lo-fi grooves from last year's Wild Legend. Below is a new track called "II," which appears on the group's latest 5-song EP Kisses for Witches. Enjoy!

Help Solve the Mystery of SandCastle at KFN Feb. 21

I’ve been really diggin’ on SandCastle’s LP Wild Legend with its creepy vocals, obtuse lyrics and infectious lo-fi grooves and melodies. I was turned on to the album by my Deli brethren Adam G. However, neither one of us really know anything about the project, and the Internet has failed to share anymore information with us, except that they’ll be performing tonight at Kung Fu Necktie and that there are few more less rad bands with the same name. Unfortunately, I’m stuck editing The Deli’s annual SXSW print issue with a tight deadline so no fun will be had by me this evening. But that shouldn’t stop you so swing by the show, and feel free to drop me a line or comment below if you have more info about SandCastle. They’ll also be sharing the bill with a couple of other local next generation up-and-comers, psych rockers Satellite Hearts and indie popsters Family Vacation. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $8, 21+ - Q.D. Tran

New Track: "Vision of the Future" - SandCastle

We love finding rad new music from acts that we never heard of and have no clue about their background info. Below is a track called "Vision of the Future" from SandCastle off his/their full-length album Wild Legend. There is something about the creepy vocals and melodic lo-fi production that definitely has us intrigued. You can take a listen to the rest of the LP HERE. Enjoy!
