Satellite Hearts

Satellite Hearts Residency Kickoff at Ortlieb's Feb. 3

Satellite Hearts begin their month-long residency at Ortlieb’s tonight, headlining a lineup that’ll help you get over the hump. The trio unites a myriad of rock-based styles - one that oozes the humid warmth of surf-psych and marries it with steady attitude, asserting heavier rock side.  They can sit in a slow-cooking simmer, and then crank up the burner to really get things going.  As we await the release of their new album via Randm Records, The Lawsuits bring their custom blend of bluesy-Americana, while the surf-punk pairing of Coin Purse (former Toy Soldiers Matt Kelly  & Dom Billett) and the soul-infused rock of Kirby & the VibeTribe kick this night into action. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. 3rd St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

Weekender Opening for Gringo Star at Ortlieb's Oct. 7

It looks rather grim and grey as I peer toward the heavens and my mind drifts toward the weekend. However, the tipping point lies in a show this evening at Ortlieb’s. Weekender navigates through the mountaintop fog with fuzz-spiked rock and a calm resolve trampling through the terrain in a manner that echoes of Britpop in a refreshing riff-propelled-floating-vocal-psych-stamped way. The trio of Satellite Hearts tethers an assortment of influential sounds, pulling Justin Pellecchia’s cooing vocals soaked in attitude and meshing it with purposeful guitar licks and a rumbling backend that’s garnered Desire Forces the Flow a frequent rotation spot. Sprinkling in classic R&B, a garage punch, onto a psych-rock scenario, Atlanta’s Gringo Star headline. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. Third St., 9pm, $10, 21+ (Photo by Jen Bragan) - Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, July 31 - August 2

Once again, NoLibs’s 2nd Street will be mobbed this Sunday for Philly’s annual 2nd Street Festival, the city’s biggest block party. There will be two stages of live music, featuring local talent such as The Extraordinaires, Dogs on Acid, LOUDS, Tutlie, Tin Horses, Satellite Hearts, and many others. (Check out the schedule of performances HERE!) The streets will also be filled with food stands/carts, beer gardens, art, workshops, and craft vendors. New Satellite Hearts LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Satellite Hearts enlisted the services of The Lawsuits' Joe Bisirri to help produce their new LP Desire Forces The Flow. The trio finds an excellent balance of catchy bass-rolling glam-pop and heavy guitar-driven psych-rock. It can hit like a gentle wave or smash violently against the shore. The band has a twin-billing on August 2, playing the 2nd St. Festival during the day, followed by Bourbon & Branch that evening.

Weekend Warrior, July 17 - 19

Satellite Hearts convene at Ortlieb’s this evening to celebrate the release of their sophomore LP Desire Forces The Flow. While their debut album occupied a loud, raw and rugged garage space, the peeks into their latest work suggest a more polished pop sensibility. Those tasty stick-to-your-bones guitar riffs remain, but the spectrum of sound for the trio seems to have broadened. The best way to find out after all is to hear it live in the flesh. The thunderous up-tempo smash and grab blues rock of fellow locals Thee, Idea Men open the proceedings, while the multifaceted Virginia-based rock trio of The Dawn Drapes, which combines airy, stabilizing vocals with a heavier instrumental environment, will be sandwiched between the two.
