Seismic Thrust

The Deli Philly’s Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner: Seismic Thrust

Lo-fi psych-folk outfit Seismic Thrust is made up of elementary school pals and multi-instrumentalists Zach Decker, Tiffany Harris and Galen Huggins. The trio recently won our Featured Artist(s) Poll, and though they’re busy working on becoming corporate rock sellouts and friends with Kurt Vile, they still managed to find some time to answer our get-to-know-you questions, which you can read HERE.

The Deli Philly's Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner: Seismic Thrust

- by The Deli Staff

Lo-fi psych-folk outfit Seismic Thrust is made up of elementary school pals and multi-instrumentalists Zach Decker, Tiffany Harris and Galen Huggins. The trio recently won our Featured Artist(s) Poll, and though they’re busy working on becoming corporate rock sellouts and friends with Kurt Vile, they still managed to find some time to answer our get-to-know-you questions, which you can read below.

The Deli: How did you start making music?

Seismic Thrust: We were in elementary school, and in between sessions of throwing Crazy Bones and trading Pokemon cards, we got ourselves some instruments and started figuring out how to play them together (we're still working on that part).

TD: Where did the name Seismic Thrust come from?

ST: Tiffany and Zach were recording some songs in attempt to start up a Myspace. We needed a name, and Spongebob happened to be on in the background. Mr. Squarepants was teaching Squidward how to blow a proper bubble. He said "pelvic thrust," and we liked the way that sounded. We were playing around with other words that ended in "ic," and "seismic" stuck. Wish it was a cooler story.

TD: What are your biggest musical influences?

ST: DEVO, Bowie, Eno, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Vaselines, Pixies, Ween, Man Man, The Vines, Wu Tang, Daniel Johnston, Neil Young, Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys.

TD: What artists (local, national and/or international) are you currently listening to?

ST: Topanga, The Band of Andys, Noculus Choculus, Ricoon, Dusty Gorilla, Jelly Surprise, Lucky Libra, 185668232, Kurt Vile, War On Drugs, Sunny Ali & the Kid, Hunters, Seismic Thrust, Dry Feet, Screaming Females, Maroon 5, OutKast, Beat Happening, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Grimes, Death Grips, Cat Power, Sharon Van Etten, Azealia Banks.

TD: What's the first concert that you ever attended and first album that you ever bought?

Zach Decker: The Police; Blink 182's Enema of the State.
Galen Huggins: N*Sync; Gorillaz's self-titled.
Tiffany Harris: Ting Tings; some Shania Twain album.

TD: What do you love about Philly?

ST: There are lots of places to go, and they’re all pretty easy to get to for the most part. Hella interesting folk!

TD: What do you hate about Philly?

ST: SEPTA isn't always a joy…and that Philly smell!

TD: What are your plans for 2012?

ST: Become corporate rock sellouts, eat a lot of chips, record more self-proclaimed cleverly titled EPs, play more shows to more people, and become friends with Kurt Vile.

TD: What was your most memorable live show?

ST: We played The Fire back on March 31st of this year with very unspecial guest Jeff Gordon Ramses The Turd, and the greatest band in the world Topanga! And we played to a lot of cool people. And The Fire is good people every time.

TD: What's your favorite thing to get at the deli?

ST: Cold cuts - we don't want to reveal too much of ourselves.
