Shadow Band

Weekend Warrior, February 24 - 26

The weather’s unseasonably warm temperatures may push one out the door in search of good musical times. Luckily the docket is full of excellent opportunities. Among the plethora of performances on the slate, First Unitarian Church plays host to a pair. Proceeds from tonight’s Indie Pop Prom will go the Pink Fund. As for the billing, the incisive, empowering songwriting of Sad13, a.k.a. Sadie Dupuis (of Speedy Ortiz), keeps things real, delivering in a contagious, free-flowing, instrumental platform. Similarly, Sports navigate personal depths through an avalanche of momentous pop rock. The blooming, experimental jangle of Mercury Girls and the nostalgic, melodic pop-punk of Swanning shape a stellar evening, which also includes headliners, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Meanwhile, Saturday’s 10th annual Two Piece Fest will be offering an all-day affair, exploring the full spectrum of dynamics among duos. You can view the full list of performers for the festival HERE.

Creeping into one’s foggy, THC-filled mind, the cosmic conquests of folk-psych outfit Shadow Band celebrate their freshly landed album, Wilderness Of Love (Mexican Summer), with a release show this Saturday at Baird Mansion Atrium. Likewise, the trio of No Thank You sets sail with their new album, Jump Ship (Lame-O Records), with a show tonight at Everybody Hits. The album exhibits an impassioned, emotive exploration with a cathartic air that makes one stay onboard. - Michael Colavita

New Track: "Daylight" - Shadow Band

Mike Bruno and his compatriots, who are now better know as Shadow Band, have been crafting and refining their musical skills for years now around Philly. And with their signing to Mexican Summer, who will be releasing the group's first full-length, Wilderness Of Love, due out February 24, it sounds like they are ready to cast their psych-folk net upon a larger audience. Below is the second offering from their forthcoming LP, titled "Daylight," and they'll be heading out on tour next month in support of the new record. You can experience them live in town on February 25 at Baird Mansion Atrium, which will be their Philly record release show.

Contemplate & Reflect w/Shadow Band at Magic Pictures Dec. 11

An effusion of sonic delight flows from the shroud of nostalgia to the present. Shadow Band’s music constructs a bridge to an ephemeral sabbatical, unfastened from the rapid advance of time. The group is a collective effort operating around the songwriting of Mike Bruno, whose compositions present a movement that feels both wistful and celebratory. The band produces a rich and expansive environment that encapsulates the singular advance of a sparse melancholia, cerebral psych-folk for contemplation and reflection. Shadow Band recently signed to Mexican Summer, who released their digital EP Eagle Unseen last month. Bruno and the gang will be performing tonight in South Philly at Magic Pictures, an evening that will also showcase the twisted enchantment of fellow Philadelphians Evil Sword and Chicago-based doom outfit Blood Licker. Magic Pictures, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), All Ages, 8pm, $8 - Josh Kelly

New Shadow Band 7" Available for Streaming & Download

Led by Mike Bruno, the musical collective of Shadow Band, which also features Megan Biscieglia (Bad Braids), recently released a new 7” via Mexican Summer. The pair of songs, “Eagle Unseen” and “Moonshine,” enacts a somewhat drafty psych-folk mysticism. These tracks breathe in the mysterious air of the forest, hypnotically wandering among the foliage, as the warmly interwoven percussion, acoustic guitar, keys, etc. draws one into the shadows.
