Hopefully you have Monday off to recover from this week’s Weekend Warrior pick. SRA Records will be hosting its 10^th Anniversary Bash this Sunday at PhilaMOCA. The local indie label is never shy about bringing us some of the heaviest, hardest-hitting acts to come out of Philly. The celebration’s stacked lineup will consist of SRA family & friends – Chronic Anxiety, Psychic Teens, The HIRS Collective, Soul Glo, Solarized, Exmaid, FOD, and Gene London Calling. Get there early for the matinee hours and beyond! And if you happen to be one of the unfortunate ones who don’t have Labor Day off, then just quit already because they obviously don’t appreciate you. – Alexis V.

Weekend Warrior, May 26 - 28

The Rotunda hosts a daylong hardcore/punk affair this Saturday; Break Free Fest hopes to shine a light on those that have been marginalized within the scene. Among the plethora of artists from near and far, the undeterred raw emotive eruption of Soul Glo holds nothing back, capturing an intensity soaked in sincerity. After recently releasing their new EP Modern Mutants, Complex bombards the airwaves with the combination of Spanish-English that steadily rips at its core. Exposing the walls of injustice, the quick-hitting onslaught of S-21 tears at the foundation, while the murky, rumbling, noise-etching, pressure-building punk of Solarized and genre-melding, noise-filtered, dance-driven, sonic-concoctions of DJ Haram set off a day of excellence. - Michael Colavita

A Benefit for Orlando Pulse Shooting Victims at FUC Nov. 5

“We seek to lead meaningful lives, to love one another without prejudice, and to build a just and sustainable world.” These words are written in the mission statement for Philly’s historic First Unitarian Church in Center City, who will be hosting A Benefit for Orlando Pulse Shooting Victims today. A plethora of hometown do-gooders such as +HIRS+, Soul Glo, S-21, Body Party, and Solarized are bands whose music embody a fierce tenacity and political clarity that lays the invaluable groundwork for effecting positive change. The headlining act for the evening is queercore outfit Limp Wrist, who will also be supported by New Yorkers Krimewatch and D.C.-based Homosuperior, as well as DJ sets during the day and into the night from DAME LUZ, precolumbian, and Alex DB. Everyone will be donating their time and talents for what is sure to be a raucous, unabashedly fun throwdown, intended to aid the victims of the deadliest mass shooting by a single shooter in U.S. history. Hardcore acts and DJs alike will take the stage to get people moving en masse, to take a stand against the antipathy directed at the community, who fell victim to the horrendous attack, and to unite various peoples under the common cause of communal care and respect.
