Son Little

King Britt & Son Little Opening for Nightmare On Wax at Union Transfer July 12

Producer, performer and curator of electronic music, King Britt continues to evolve and reinvent himself through his past work with Grammy-winning hip-hop collective Digable Planets, Sylk130 Collective, Saturn Never Sleeps and The Sister Gertrude Experience. And with his latest sonic sci-fi adventure, Fhloston Paradigm, he just release a new album, The Phoenix, last month via Hyperdub. Another talent, who has been kicking it around our local music scene for years, is Aaron Livingston. You may be more familiar with him as a collaborator with The Roots and rjd2 (Icebird). Well, Livingston has really come into his own with his latest neo-soul project Son Little that recently signed to ANTI- Records. Both artists will be showing off their cultivated years of experience tonight at Union Transfer when they open for Warp Records’ Nightmare On Wax. Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 8pm, $19, All Ages - H.M. Kauffman

Son Little Opening for Small Black & Snowmine at JB's June 23

Aaron Livingston, a.k.a. ANTI- recording artist Son Little, the opening act for tonight’s show at Johnny Brenda’s, has the type of natural soul-gripping vocals that make you stop what you're doing, hone-in, and ask, "Who’s that?" Already having worked with such accomplished artists as The Roots and rjd2, Son Little’s neo-soul pulls from the toolbox of his predecessors, using his vocals as a means to skillfully express a full palette of emotion from pleasure to perseverance, giving listeners a zoomed-in view of his inner workings - a personal proximity that exudes strength. The sleek synth & string-layered indie pop of Snowmine will bridge the gap to the electro-dance pop of fellow Brooklynites Small Black. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 8pm, $12, 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Song: "Your Love Will Blow Me Away When My Heart Aches.” - Son Little

His voice may already be familiar to you, but now Aaron Livingston, aka Son Little, is ready to get his. The endlessly soulful singer was featured on The Root’s undun, as well as RJD2’s Icebird project, and now he is coming out on his own, showing why such stalwarts were clamoring to work with him. The guitarist and singer’s torment and pain manifests itself into a haunting, slow-burning new track called, “Your Love Will Blow Me Away When My Heart Aches.” The sparse but emotive track is highlighted, unsurprisingly, by Livingston’s powerful vocals. The Anti- Record signed Son Little already has some important friends, so he is sure to be on the rise.  Check out the track and video below.

New Music Video: "Cross My Heart" - Son Little

Check out the debut single and music video from Son Little, a.k.a. Aaron Livingston, who is best known for his collaborations with The Roots and rjd2! The track's lyrics "bear witness to two departed friends" and were "inspired by Trayvon Martin...a defiant prayer to remember the lost." Livingston is the most recent signee to Anti- Records, who also houses Philly favorites like Dr. Dog and Man Man. Son Little will be opening for Thudercat this Wednesday, Nov. 27 at The Boot & Saddle.
