The Spirit of the Beehive

New The Spirit of the Beehive LP Available for Streaming

The Spirit of the Beehive just premiered its long-awaited LP Pleasure Suck, which officially comes on March 24 via Tiny Engines, but you can stream it now over at Stereogum. The album shifts unpredictably from warm melodies to wafting, textured soundscapes that morph into chaotic, dense walls of noise, and back again without notice, as a dreary, dark cloud hangs over the disenchanted, dual guy-gal lead vocals. It's a mind-warping collection of tracks that yearn for you to dig deeper. The band is currently on an extensive U.S. tour that will wrap up with a hometown release show on Friday, March 28 at Everybody Hits.

Weekend Warrior, March 10 - 12

As one descends into subterranean cement-lined confines of Underground Arts this evening, a cavalcade of the city’s heavy-psych noisemakers will meet you on the inside. Cultivating a cozy temperamental air gently permeating the auditory system with hazy melodies before escalating into the ethereal, Creepoid delivers the calm and then the searing storm.  Speaking of sear, Purling Hiss pummels and rips through a fog-filtered, psych lens, delivering raunchy riffs among unrestrained rhythms. Meanwhile, with their new album, Pleasure Suck, due out in two weeks via Tiny Engines, the disorienting but enchanting surge of The Spirit of the Beehive will be on display. Likewise, the “raw rock fury” of Ecstatic Vision, whose aptly titled forthcoming album of the same name, will be available next month via Relapse, torching a menacing mesmerizing hole in the mind in the process.

For those seeking other accommodations, the bombarding, brutal, soul-crushing stomp of Pissed Jeans will celebrate their new album, Why Love Now (Sub Pop), with a pair of sold-out release shows Friday and Saturday at Boot & Saddle and PhilaMOCA respectively.

New Music Video: "Twenty First Road Trip" - The Spirit of the Beehive

The Spirit of the Beehive’s long-awaited new album, Pleasure Suck, is set for release on March 24 via Tiny Engines. As we lie in wait, Federico Casanova’s video for “Twenty First Road Trip" has emerged. A blitz of ever-morphing, creepy/nostalgic imagery is displayed as the song’s soothing, grunge-psych marriage charges ahead. You can catch the gang in the flesh tomorrow night at Underground Arts, before they head out next week on an extensive tour across the U.S. in support of Pleasure Suck. (Photo by Emily Burtner)

New Inauguration Day Protest Compilation to Benefit the ACLU

"This compilation is an expression of love, anger, hope and protest on inauguration day. Let it serve as a reminder that the fight for justice is not over, that the celebration of diversity is essential to progress, that we must work together for what is fair and good. Can’t stop. Won’t Stop. Don’t stop now."

Featuring a plethora of Philly's favorite indie musicians like Radiator Hospital, Abi Reimold, Jon Loudon (Restorations), Marisa Dabice (Mannequin Pussy), Pat Conaboy (The Spirit of the Beehive), August Koch (Cayetana), and so many more covering iconic artists (Neil Young, John Lennon, David Bowie, New Order, etc.), the thirty-eight song compilation, Don't Stop Now: a collection of covers, will hopefully bring you some type of solace as well as inspiration today, as we prepare for the ginormous battle that lies ahead of us. But have no fear - we'll all be here for each other. FUCK COMRADE TRUMP! All proceeds from this compilation will benefit the ACLU.
