New Video: TJ Kong Halloween Murdershow 2013 Promo

Though it might not be on Underground Arts' show calendar, the 4th annual TJ Kong Halloween Costume Ball Rock N Roll Murdershow is happening this Thursday with of course, TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, Purples, Johnny Showcase, Cold Fronts, Manterial Girl and DJ Breakfast. Below is a promo video to remind you not to drop the ball on this Halloween extravaganza.

The Swollen Fox 3-year Anniversary Show w/TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, Swift Technique & Shark Tape at PhilaMOCA July 11

Our concert-going buddy Kevin Kennedy and his music blog The Swollen Fox are celebrating 3 years in operation tonight with an eclectic anniversary showcase at PhilaMOCA. Headliner TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb will surely serve up plenty of their rollicking whiskey-infused tunes, and this evening’s performance will also double up as the kickoff to their summer tour. They’ll be joined by seven-piece funk ensemble Swift Technique, who should be previewing jams from their latest EP You Boys Be Aight that they just sent to press. And rounding out the lineup will be the relative newcomers Shark Tape, who have quickly been making a name for themselves. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $8 - $10, All Ages - Bill McThrill

TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb Opening for Lily & The Parlour Tricks at Underground Arts June 21

It’s hard to imagine ever needing someone to sum up your craziest nights and the miserable mornings after, until hearing TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb.  They put all the mess and mistakes of that one night into song and make you want to relive it all over again. Playing blues through a veil of morning whiskey breath and stale cigarette smoke, vocalist Dan Bruskewicz’s rough croon offers clarity through the haze. Instrumentals that include violin, harmonica and upright base all crash together in crafted chaos, the end result being a raucous and strangely uplifting good time. Also on tonight’s roster is Lily and The Parlour Tricks, a band rooted in Americana who also know how to swing.  Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., $10, 8pm, 21+ - Shaylin O’Connell

Brat Aid: A Concert Fundraiser w/TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb at JB’s May 13

If you’re a fan of TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb’s garage folk-blues and Bukowski- esque tales, then you definitely should come out to Johnny Brenda’s tonight. The band will be performing two sets this evening so you know that they’ll be leaving it all on stage to help raise funds for Brat Productions, “a theatre company that produces both contemporary material and re-envisioned classics, working with new artists, working in non-traditional venues, and working to keep ticket prices low.” The Brat Cabaret will be on hand displaying their unique theatrics with a drag performance and two rock medleys, and Andrew Bird-inspired Brooklyn outfit Isadora will also be donating their time and talents. Help keep art alive and weird in Philly! Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 8pm, $12 - $30, 21+ - Alexis V.

New Music Video: "Ancient Road Blues" - TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb

TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb premiered a new stitched together, road-weary music video, which happens to be their first ever, for the track "Ancient Road Blues," via YVYNYL. It was directed by Philadelphian filmmaker Brian Melton. The band will be performing tomorrow night at Kung Fu Necktie with Cold Fronts before heading down to SXSW where they'll be playing at The Deli's Hangover Hideout showcase and many others.
