Trophy Wife

New Trophy Wife EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Diane Foglizzo and Katy Otto merge in the affecting hardcore punk of Trophy Wife, and they just released a new two-song EP Body Camera/Where is North. “Body Camera” stirs in a grey-clouded melodic anticipation with vocal harmony easing the heart rate as the well-honed instrumental tirade rolls in overhead, crisply shaking the foundation. “Where is North” is a measure of controlled restraint, momentarily demonstrating turbulent potential with a steady hand. You can stream and purchase both tracks below.

Calculated Explosions w/Trophy Wife at Wolf Cycles Jan. 6

The tandem of Katy Otto & Diane Foglizzo fuse as Trophy Wife. Performing this evening at Wolf Cycles, the duo develops a textured sound even though fully capable of kicking down the door at any moment with brute force. As their latest album All the Sides (SRA Records) clearly demonstrates, there is well-formed thoughtfulness behind the message issued via their lyrics and the music that helps deliver it. This combination of pensive melody with tightly woven guitar and percussion creates songs that seem ideal for taking a walk in the open with a slight chill in the air. There is that persistent grunge sound, pace-setting space, clearing percussion and smooth preparatory guitar licks that build anticipation. However, once the moment arrives, Trophy Wife tears through with calculated explosions, blasting your ears with gritty precision. Tonight’s bill also includes the pop-punk of local trio Blowdryer and heavy grunge-oriented tunes of Baltimore’s Big Mouth. Wolf Cycles, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 7:30pm, $5, All Ages - Michael Colavita

New Track: "It Comes in Waves... (Neil Young)" - Trophy Wife

Below is a track from Trophy Wife called "It Comes in Waves... (Neil Young)," off their album all the sides. It may be a surpise to those have been following the duo's catalogue. The song is a 7-minute mostly instrumental jam with a mantra of "Once beat strong/Beat again"; however, it still keeps the band's signature intensity, which is generated by Diane Foglizzo's searing electric guitar and Katy Otto's in sync pummeling of her kit - only with spaces to breathe to take it all in.

Weekend Warrior, February 7 - 9

Union Transfer hosts a huge all locals only lineup this Saturday as Pissed Jeans and Purling Hiss join forces for a three-day run with a stop at Union Transfer alongside Trophy Wife, who will joining in for an evening of chaos. Ever since signing to Sub Pop and putting out Hope for Men, Pissed Jeans have found themselves being regarded as one of the best hardcore noise-rock bands of the current generation. And their work with Grammy-nominated Alex Newport on King of Jeans and last year’s Honeys has elevated their sound to a whole new level. What started out as a solo side project by then Birds of Maya guitarist Mike Polizze has evolved into another heavy rockin’ power trio in Purling Hiss. And ever since signing to Drag City and releasing their first record as a trio, Water on Mars, Polizze and friends have gotten bigger than ever. Though Trophy Wife aren’t yet as well-known as their other bill mates, all that could change with the third album that the ladies are shooting to release in late spring, so tonight could be an opportune moment to sample a couple new tunes among the old. It’s your chance to rage this weekend before the snow forces you to hibernate in your home once again. Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 8pm, $15, All Ages - Bill McThrill
