Pacer - Bangin' New Shoegaze Track, Monarch Tavern 03.29

Rock n’ roll shoegazers Pacer have just released a brand new single. “Bangers” is a bangin’ track with a straight ahead rhythm that’ll make you nod your head to the beat immediately. It reminds me of the band Broncho but with clearer vocals. It’s a night time driving song that you’ll be singing along to by the final chorus. Pacer plays the Monarch Tavern on March 29th alongside The Good Palms (Australia), The Effens and Bad River. – Kris Gies

New Track: "Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping" (Grouper Cover) - Nothing

Nothing just announced that they'll be releasing a new compilation album, titled Spirit Of The Stairs - B-Sides & Rarities (Relapse Records). It will feature outtakes from their latest LP Dance On The Blacktop, along with other demos, live recordings, and covers. Below is the band's beautifully noisy rendition of Grouper's genteel "Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping". Nothing have plans to return back to Philly on Tuesday, May 14 at the TLA, with Basement & Teenage Wrist.

Haulm craft brooding, minimal synthpop on "Posture," play SXSW

Posture, the sophomore EP by Brooklyn's atmospheric synthpop duo Haulm, features an aged desert landscape contained within a thick white border. It’s a perfect fit for the brooding, dark, and spartan work laid down over the release’s five tracks; one can almost picture an unknown beast slouching from the sandy landscape against the dissonant keys of Reed Kackley, as JT Norton’s distant, almost fugue-state vocals weaves in and out. It’s an EP oozing with atmosphere that’s curated using relatively few musical elements, and speaks volumes to Haulm’s penchant for fine tuning sparse synths and the human voice into engaging, mysterious soundscapes.

You can catch Haulm at SXSW on March 12th and 15th - until then, stream Posture below. -Connor Beckett McInerney (@b_ck_tt)

Industrial psych-rockers GHXST share digital album "Gloom," play SXSW on 3/13

Brooklyn electronic psych rock duo GHXST dropped their latest digital album “Gloom” at the end of 2018. After playing a select number of hand picked shows around the release date, they are now preparing to showcase the new material at this years SXSW music festival. Lead track “Hunger” immediately establishes a dark, slow-burn foreboding that places emphasis on deep-end howling guitars, many of them sampled. Dreamy female vocals come adorned with a level of unsettling doom that would surely please David Lynch and his fans. Additional tracks like “Ocean is a Desert” and “Vaquero” continue that vibe while adding eery electronic elements reminiscent of Swiss industrial guitar-rock pioneers The Young Gods. “Bad Blood II” introduces a pulsating electronic synth progression, while “Ride” digs down into a bass-tone heavy groove that A Place To Bury Strangers frequently resides. Final track “Heatwaves” incorporates bended slide-guitar along with its apprehensive vocal delivery, dark ambience and snaking progression. GHXST will be performin at an official SXSW showcase on 3/13 at BD Riley's. - Dave Cromwell
